GTA IV Details Emerge!!

To be fair October is a much nicer said-date than, say, Q1 2008. I think it's a great date, I look forward to it.

Yeah, choppers had better still be in.

:( the one thing San Andreas done right was the planes. At least the world is smaller now and so there will be less hideen packages(I hate those :flame: )

Hahaha! Staten Island gets f_cked like it should!! And the part of NJ they are including is...Hoboken? I sure hope so but it may be something up by the GWB. We'll have to wait and see!!!

Not necessarily. If we can go into many more buildings, then there will be more places to hide them!!

as long as their are motorcycles, ill be good....planes are cool but i guess if its just one big city theres no point.....

I was never a huge fan of the GTA series, the only one I actually played all the way was the 3rd one on my PC. But I'm extremely pumped for this game, can't wait to see actual videos of the game play.

I wish there were planes. The only thing I do in SA now is use the parachute cheat and jump out of planes.

I reckon that if the gameplay is altered substantially enough, we won't even care a jot about planes.

Can't wait for it. There's no denying that R* can deliver, and I'll bet GTA IV sets another bar for the "sandbox" genre.

The one thing I'm really looking forward to is combat and the A.I. in combat. Let's face it: it sucked in the other games. Target the enemies, take a load of shots, cycle the targets and kill everyone. All in all, the battle took place with everyone standing still. GTA:SA altered it slightly with cops that hid behind cars, but not alot more. In fact, nothing more.

In this, if I kill someone in a store or a building, when I look outside I want to see police officers moving to cover behind a wall, or a bench, and yeah behind police cars like in SA. I don't want to see them running blindly at me, and I really don't want to see endless amounts appearing from thin air. Ruined the atmosphere.

I hope we can take hostages, too.

There'd better be f'ing planes. The whole 9/11 excuse is no reason to take out planes from the game nor is it a good reason that there are no planes if it's just one city.

The 9/11 argument is stupid as hell. We can't fly a plane in a game near any kind of civilization? Next up, take out all buildings from Microsoft Flight Simulator.

GTA3 was one city and I had plenty of fun flying the Dodo. The plane mechanics sucked but it was still fun flying across to the 2nd section of the city and going down the street, dodging buildings and billboards and whatnot. Just because there may be 1 airport doesn't mean you can't find places to land grassy areas, large streets, freeways, etc.

Planes are a big part of GTA games for me and I'll be pissed if they're not in. There's no good reason they should be axed.

EDIT:
There are no planes in GTA IV because there is only one city, and Rockstar want the game to seem realistic. That means there will be no rollerblades, no unicycles, probably no jetpacks and indeed no planes.

Oh booooooo.

lol, "probably" no jetpacks :p

But I find it probable that helicopters will still be in. Since it's just one city, there's nowhere to go in a plane, and no real use for them in such a confined space, but helicopters are incredibly useful AND common in cities. Plus, helicopters weren't mentioned in that list.

Plus much of the air traffic that is typically around Manhattan flying up and down the rivers is helicopters with tours...

Plus helicopters are more fun to use than planes anyway :D

I rarely used planes in SA because it would be hard to land in an area I wanted to land in, then get back in and take off. There usually wasn't enough room for me to do that. Helicopters are so much better imo.

There wasn't much point in landing and doing stuff anyway - as soon as you walked about 10 metres from your vehicle it disappeared when you weren't looking. :p

Mm, that reminds me. I really hope they change the way the game loads vehicles. You'll be looking for an exotic car but all you findis the same car you're driving (since it's easier to load current models than draw new ones). You'll find the car you want, and, suddenly, there'll be hundreds of them.

Hahaha! Yeah, that was pretty funny (and annoying)....

It's funniest when an entire street is jam-packed with garbage trucks, or civvies drive army personal carriers. :D

Really, was flying Planes ever that fun? That kind of stuff was what you did after beating the game. It was always secondary to enjoyable, open-ended missions, which is what the series is about. It seems like people only remember the silly, tacked on stuff and not the incredible depth of gameplay.

If GTA IV sets out to improve on what made GTA III totally stand out then good for them. I honestly don't care how much useless stuff they add if the fundamental gameplay isn't made better. That is what matters. Some of these comments disappoint me, as we seem to be addicted to shallow quantity rather than quality.

I don't hear anything ground breaking... "denser story" and "more freedom"? sounds like the previous GTAs to me.

/bumps into pedastrian who flies a few meters forward and clings on to a signpost :D
I hope you're right about the physics, but this is starting to sound an awful lot like the amazing physics and AI that we all thought HL2 would have in our hyped up state. The game releases in October? Well that gives us plenty of time to reach that level of ridiculousness.

The citizens don't sound as good as I thought they would be either. Wow, a few more idle animations, awesome. They need to focus on large crowd reactions and how all that shit works. All they are doing is the minimum they can, simple adding more people on the street and giving them more pointless animations.

When I play, I sit and look at pedestrian animations. I agree with Veg.

I don't know if this has been discussed and I'm too sleep deprived to scan the rest of the thread, but the idea of flying planes in liberty might be a bit of a touchy subject considering 9/11, no GTA has come out in Liberty since then am I right? Also I'd rather they focused on detailing and perfecting one block of real estate instead of creating tons of filler / transition / rural zones (San Andreas). More power to 'em.

ed. oh yeah LCS for the PSP/PS2.. planes or nay, not enough press on those games for guys like Jack Tom to care anyways.

Not to derail, but Assassins Creed should take the cake for crowd AI in 2007, it looks to be simply stunning

Xbox Gazette : The crowd seems really important in Assassin's Creed. Can you describe its interactions and the AI?
Jade Raymond : Altair's interactions with the crowd are based on a social dynamic, meaning we want to achieve a certain level of social realism in his interactions. In most games, it's not considered unusual to run around with your gun out and no one taking any notice. In fact, the very idea of running all the time is a bit silly; no one does this in real life! Thus, Altair has two modes in the game: a socially acceptable "low profile" mode, where all his actions are modified to help him blend in socially. In the second "high profile" mode, Altair goes into all-out hero mode, but simultaneously becomes more conspicuous, possibly putting his mission at risk.

Can never tell at this stage though, I personally have high hopes for both.

Serbian eh?
I wonder if a genocide game mode will be included in the game.

This is gonna be a badass game hopefully it'll come to PC.
