GTA IV New Trailer - "Good Lord, What Are You Doing?

Never been a big fan of the GTA series, that trailer didn't do anything to change my opinion.

If worlds are too open its ****ing boring. And gangster storylines are yawn.

None of the original games were wholly open worlds. You had to progress through the storyline in order to open up new areas and meet new characters. The core nature of the GTA games is very much akin to that of an RPG like Mass effect/Oblivion, but without the raising of internal statistics (better aim etc). Your progression is measured through material advancement (access to better equipment, money etc).

I'd also argue that gangster is a bit of a broad term. In a 'modern' setting (as opposed to sci-fi/fantasy/historical) there really aren't a lot of options in terms of what interesting characters you can play in a action orientated game, save soldier (Cod4), policeman (Max Payne), spy/special agent (Deus Ex, Splinter cell) or criminal (GTA, Kane & lynch). With a limited palette of character types it's not so much the characters that are important as the storyline.

Don't forget treasure-hunter!!

True, but more often than not your treasure hunter ends up fighting fantastical creatures which kind of shifts it into a sci-fi realm (I've not played drakes fortune so I can't comment on that). I'm using a pretty strict definition of modern.

The GTA protagonist is part treasure hunter too, what with those damn hidden packages. ;)

I never really cared for those. I got them when I saw them, but I didn't quest for the ones I was missing.

I will be doing that in this game.. oh boy yes will I be doing that!

Yeah, although this time it isn't strictly hidden packages but "some other version" of them. I'll probably try and get them for the achievement, but I'm not resorting to a walkthrough unless it's atleast 50gp. Not like Assassin's Creed's ridiculous flags that were 20gp per city. :|

What the hell do gamer points matter anyways? I don't care about them. lol

Gamerpoints is e-peen given numerical value.

I'm not so hung up on the score as much as just having some secondary sort of meta-goals. That said I'll still pick and choose them depending on how hard they are compared to the points, because I like to feel like I've earned something. :>

After I completed everything else in Vice City I went back with a guide and got all the packages and 100% to get unlimited ammo, 200 hp/armor, double health on all cars, an entourage, all the cool weapons outside my mansion, a sea sparrow would spawn, a rhino and hunter would as well.

I'll do the same for GTAIV if there are cool rewards for it like there were in VC.

I just preordered the Collector's Edition the other day.

April 29thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

That explosion in the trailer with the "body" flying look's awesome!
