Hey all, I'm very new to this forum

So I bought HL2 and after playing it I thought wow it would be so cool if there was a single player mod for this game that made half-life like GTA. I steamed the Dev SDK and started to play with making maps and stuff.

What I want to know is if anyone would want to help me develop an Urban Gangster style single player mod. I was looking though all the HL2 single player mods and realized they were all very depressing and about the same subject more or less (death, war, and aliens). I want to create a mod which is very different it would be more of a driving, story style of game rather then shoot'em up.

I'm not sure exactly what the plot could be but it might be something along the lines of your in the south and you have a kilo of cocaine. To beat the game you have to sell it, and the faster you do it the better your score. I think this type of game could be very popular especially in America. I would also want the game to have a free wonder mod, in-which the player could roam the city.

I have some great concept sketches of characters and level design but I want to hear what other people think of this idea...

examples of my work found here

And of course if you serious and want to help develop it contact me.

Thanks,

hmmm, this is a bad idea and you will be flamed for it. You mentioned you was new to the forums, well... you can definatly tell... You also said you wanted to make something a little different, so why the hell are you makin GTA Half-Life 2. Reaserch what you wish to do and think logically. Then think long and hard about what you want to do and come back. If you gain any experiance in your travels you will realise how stupid you just made your self look :P

Sometime in the development of Half-Life 2, at least 4 GTA mods were announced. I think every one of them failed.
Trust, man, I doubt Source can cope with that sort of load. It's not designed for city-sized maps. Unles you want a load screen after every 60 seconds of driving.

lol

lol okay... I'm not sure why it should get flamed... I'll be more careful next time...

Um... also loading screens? half of the HL2 is driving there are not to many loading screens...

But the driving levels in HL2 are cleverly designed to either contain as little geometry as possible, or loop back on themselves. In a GTA style game, you'll want some walking bits. To have that look good, you'll need some detail. That makes the maximum map size much smaller.

What an unneccesary post.

You didn't make yourself look stupid. In order to find out whether something like this could work or not you need to first ask people who are familiar with map-making... which you did. So good luck.
By the way, you have some really interesting work on your page, I like it.
