"the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible to exceed people's expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," said Sam Houser, president of Rockstar Games"

well that pretty much confrims it...

Hmm me neither, but this sounds credible, however I won't buy it. FPSs are for teh pc imo.

errrr.... i need screenshots. wow, i really didnt expect 8 months... i expected at least 18!!!

wow another gta game that will barely run on the shitty ps2

PS2 exclusive? They always say that and then port them to PC a few months later... but to avoid the wait I may have to attempt to get my damn PS2 working!

Thanks for the info!

Exclusive when dealing with console titles means console exclusive, not PC ports.

Please say they are changing the graphics engine, i'm getting bored of the GTA look :(

Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing division of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., is pleased to announce Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the next iteration in the globally successful Grand Theft Auto franchise. "In the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible to exceed people's expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," stated Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games. "Even though we still have eight months to go, we are starting to become very proud of what we have achieved and we can't wait to get the game into players' hands."

Leslie Benzies, President of Rockstar North, stated, "We are extremely humbled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto series and it has made us push ourselves further than ever to create a title in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that will hopefully redefine the Grand Theft Auto series and revolutionize open-ended gameplay and video game production values."

Me too.

Holy Hell, I had no idea they sold that well. They deserve it though, they're great games.

I personally prefer playing them on PS2, the car controls are MUCH better and the game is way too easy with mouse aiming. The only disadvantage the PS2 version has is resolution and mods, I see no reason why anyone who's played the PS2 version would say it "barely runs." It runs fine, that's just a stupid PC fanboy comment.

I really do hope they change the graphics engine. The graphics on this game suck, and it isn't just because of the PS2. Look at The Getaway, Driver 3, and Jak 2 those games look really great (especially The Getaway and Jak 2) and are rendering larger environments with no loading. There's no reason GTA shouldn't be able to do this too, the tech they're using is very outdated.

I am waiting for the PC version and that means another 3-6months over the ps2 date :(

I find it amazing how fast they are turning out these GTA games. There has been one a year now for the last three years. It's like Madden or something.

Hmmm...I wonder what year San Andreas is going on in?

I never did finish Vice City... I got to the point where I had to buy up property and quit...

I have all the "telephone-missions" left. :p

Gold Rush y'all!

Drive-by's on the horses....

Although I'll be able to borrow my sister's PS2 to play it, I'd really rather play it on the PC. I really hope they do atleast a port.

Oh they will... THEY WILL!

yeah, theyll port it eventually....theyve done it with all the others.

and the reason they are coming out with it so soon is because of one big reason: just like Vice City, San Andreas is GTA3 with new places, missions, maps, weapons, cars, characters, etc. its not actually a new game, only more of a stand-alone expansion.

now GTA4.....that will be crazy, but it will take a while for them to make it.

and there is no way a ps2 could render GTA3 type areas with Jak/FFX/whatthehelleverelse type gfx. the amount of information alone that is processed by the GTA3 engine eliminates the possibility for suberb visual effects. maybe the getaway and jak 2 are loading larger environments(i highly doubt it, the area loaded in vice city is pretty freakin huge for a console) but they are not running nearly as complex of an environment. What needs to be understood is that size and graphics are not the only things that put stress on a processor, more so than both of those is the volume of instructions. when an engine is keeping track of as much stuff as GTA3, the game is gonna be fairly limited in the visual department.(this is of course referring to consoles, a computer can handle the GTA3 engine with superb graphics, i dont know if youve seen some of the total conversion mods, but they look damn fine with 8x AA and ASF.)

Well, Jak 2 has the entire game loaded up and streams it in. Not a single load time in the entire game. It too has jackable cars, a traffic system, wanted level system, and a very large city. In addition to this there is more pedestrians and vehicles on screen at any one time and they look a lot better.

The Getaway is the same type of game as GTA. The map is much larger than Liberty City or Vice City and the entire thing is loaded up at the same time, you still have to load indoor areas though. Central London is recreated perfectly, down to every little mom and pop store, McDonalds, or whatever else. The map is much larger, more detailed, and more complex than GTA cities. There are more cars and pedestrians on screen and they're all highly detailed with a shitload more polygons. And just like GTA you can steal any car on the road and get the police after you. The cars damage realistically, they take bullet holes and have penetration values - and the glass breaks dynamically in all vehicles (makes for great firefights). In addition to this The Getaway also has good AI, gangsters take civilians as hostages in gunfights, police use SWAT like tactics, people take cover behind parked cars, etc. Also, The Getaway actually has decent indoor areas which are visually impressive and are actually fun to play, the camera (although not the best) doesn't spaz out on you when you go in a hallway.

Another game which is technically more impressive than GTA is True Crimes. The game itself wasn't very good, and the graphics weren't all that amazing either, but they are better than GTA. Also, the city is stupidly huge, probably the largest game map in existance (except for maybe Operation Flashpoint). If you get on the highway it literally takes more than 10 minutes to get across the city going full speed. The general graphical quality is higher too, although there are more graphical glitches. The vehicles arent too impressive, about on par with GTA. The pedestrians are a little better, and there is about the same amount of traffic. Neitehr of these games are very impressive but TC still beats out GTA.

GTA may be a better game overall, but technically it really sucks.

Do we actually know yet if this is just an update, or have they done an overhaul?
I know its only been a year, but if anyone can surprise us its Rockstar.

im worried that this game will be stopped..due to all the buzz around the GTA franchise..the haitans will spoil it for us :D
