9 series cards with hdmi do, and i believe the 3800 and 4800 series do. anyone confirm it on 8 series?

Looks like they took down the card (out of stock?).

Depending on the version or type, DVI can also support HDCP (encryption used on HDMI). So if you wanted full support for watching HD content to a HD monitor/TV then you would just need a DVI/HDMI adapter (cheap).

That's true, the standard DVI-hdmi adapters can't do that. Although a lot of cards come with customer adapters that use the extra DVI pins to connect to the audio pins in HDMI to do the pass through. I don't think the EVGA cards do. I know some MSI/Asus cards do.

But there are cases when you would not be able to use the HDMI pass through to a receiver but may want to use analog instead. Say if you want to use uncompressed PCM 7.1 audio over digital 5.1.
