You know that you have to auth Half-Life 2 online? Maybe it will be unlocked as soon as anyone auths a version online. So it would be as soon as the first copy is installed.

There was a rumour a while ago that if a shop started selling Half-Life 2 early then it would be unlocked at that time.

Unlikely, though.

It's true, if you were to buy HL2 before it's scheduled release, you won't be able to activate untill the game is release on Steam, making the game unplayable until then. Upon Steam's release, the activation process will succeed. I'm sure someone will find a way around it for all the illegal copies.

You misread my post, I'm saying that maybe Valve will release it as soon as someone activates it, not that anyone who buys it will have to wait till it's unlocked on Steam.

Like, I said, it's unlikely though.

halflife will come out on monday nite at 00.00.01 at one second past twelve on monday tuesday morning 16th nov 2004 because gabe and his meerymen will all be sat around a pc that is set up for one thing and one thing alone :E [hl2 activation via steam] and huge cheers will be leek from the windows of valve hq as gabe,s paw hits the enter key on the keyboard at midnite lol :cheers:
