Well, we all know that the more practice someone does for something the better they get at it, and I have realized that this works for humor as well. Yes I have a sense of humor... somewhat.... well....

Anyways, I wanted to dedicate a thread on HL 2.net for anyone who wants to donate a couple of tips on being funny. I have had some friends that used to have no sense of humor and now they are the funniest people I know. And besides that, there is so much junk threads in the Off-Topic forum that this one fits perfectly!!

.....Please dont ban me for saying that....

What you are requesting doesn't exist... The only thing closest to a "guide" to being funny would be a list of jokes. You can't just be 'taught' a sense of humor :|

If you need tips, it kinda defeats the purpose of BEING funny.

Uhh dont think about it? I usually just blurt something out and it may sound dumb when you think about it but every laughs. I guess I am more of a random funny rather than telling jokes kind of funny. Just work at it, I used to suck at getting people to laugh but its not hard now.

Depends on the person you're trying to make laugh too! Short Recoil thinks we're all hilarious, especially when he sees us naked.

:o

It's hard to say. If I do say so myself, I'm a pretty funny guy in person, but only when I'm not trying. I think part of it is just looking at things in a new light, from different angles, and using the funny insights that doing so results in. At least, that's what it seems to be to me...

timing is everything and know your audience, often it's not what you say, but how you say it?

and yea, different things a different way. They aren't scrambled eggs, they're liquid chicken?

Yeah, like that I suppose. For instance, I was with some friends, and a bunch of elderly people got off a train a ways away. I shouted "Hey, look! The geriatric parade!" pretty much a lot louder than I meant. Everybody thought it was funny, and it was just something that popped into my head.

And yeah. I'm an asshole. I already know.

Yeah your audience is all. Like I magically get funny around my mates Kai and Ashley. Maybe some people just bring out the humour. You do, however, need humour to begin with...

When you are with a group of people and a very serious conversation is going on, pull the hood of your sweatshirt so that it's covering your face, crawl into the fetal position, and wimper while rocking back and forth

rofl, just like trying to break orbit from a fat person in walmart. :D

Haha yeah. Or getting 20 kids to walk around a crowded city block, all in bathing suits, asking about "The Flood" in a really biblical manner. That was a good time :D

But I must admit, I didn't actually make up that fat person one- I just ripped it from the annals of Bash.org. I actually believe that our own Pi has a quote regarding that.

Irony is funny.

Sarcasm properly applied is funny.

Randomness can be funny.

But one can't spontaneously spawn a sense of humour. Not everyone gets to be Shakespeare, Einstein, and Khan.

It can't be done. The more you try, the less funny you get.

TRYING to be funny is not funny.

/thread

I'm supposedly pretty funny, but in my experience, the humor always comes to me, not the other way around.

or just be sarcastic as ****, it always works..

but you're not on this earth to please other people and make them laugh, you're not a ****ing clown.. the best humor is when you're not trying to be funny but just "point something out". self respect is more important than being a clown. there's better ways to popularity if that's what you want

and yeah, there's nothing worse than someone trying desperately to be funny..

but seriously.. what's with people thinking of the internet as a guide to life?

"hey I need to be intelligent can u guyz give me some tipzzz plz? oh and also i need to become sexy, cool, funny and perfect in every aspect imaginable, could you guyz give me some headers on that too?"

It's because they apparently trust the rest of the human race to know any more than they do. Or because everybody on the internet pretends to know everything. D:

This reminds me of that stupid, stupid site that gives you tips on how to get ladies to sleep with you.

I don't see why people listen to tips from successful people. The last thing they need is more competition.

#1 rule of comedy: If you're trying to be funny, you're not funny.

There's different kinds of funny. Personally I prefer the dry British wit. Lots of sarcasm but never let anyone be completely sure whether you're joking or serious.

I like dry humour like this:

"WANTED: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before."

So none of the standup comedians are funny? ;)

The joke is cleverly hidden within my cunning riff on a well-known filmic quotation!
