ArenaNet will begin offering free access keys on Friday for their Jan. 20-22 preview of chapter 2, Guild Wars: Factions. The preview is available even if you do not have an existing Guild Wars account.

The event will enable players to experience two new professions being introduced in the campaign, the Assassin and the Ritualist. Participants will also be able to try out a number of the skills added to Guild Wars: Factions, including some of the deadly skills of the Assassin and the arcane spells of the spiritual Ritualist. They will also be able to get familiar with the new PvP continent, Battle Isles. Battle Isles will introduce players to new PvP experiences, new and expanded arenas, new quests, and a new explorable area as well.
You can find the full article here.

HLR will probably be forming a temporary guild for the weekend. If anyone would like to join us for the fun, message me here or ingame. My character name is Triia Lostwind. You can also reach us at our new forum or contact any HLR officers:

Logonitur Karn
Malae Delwynn
Howling Monkey
Rico The Barbarian

American Players:
888D9-H27PG-NM72D-PLHJ1-2HG11

European Players:
66DG9-C4RHB-9FKD6-287BJ-LRGCJ

Feel free to share the keys. I believe you can use it as much as you want, so spread it to everyone!

Yep I'll be there :D

I've played both the E3 open Event back in '04 and the beta open event.

So how do I prepare for playing this? What do I need to know?

Edit: Should be fairly similar to WoW right?

Nah its not similar - I've got both games, but I gave GW to my brothers, and I play WoW instead now (so I know the difference)

Oh, that makes it sound all the more interesting.

Anyone play it yet? I just started creating my character.

Dammed, I have the game, and whne I just tried to start it it ****ed up my connection, had to reset my modem. Anyway, have fun guys.

Just did the tutorials. I might try the mp part later. Any explanation would be helpful.

It's only PvP. Every time for kills and wins, you gain faction points, which you use to unlock items and skills.

For items, you can not use an item you unlocked, only for a new char. you create.

I'm not as impressed as I was for the last two events.

I like assasins, but other than that im not really gonna be in the event. Still have to level up my warrior :p

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd post here. I got Guild Wars today and am a bit of a nub :) (Lvl 5 supposedly before this "searing" I keep hearing of). Name's Lieutenant Darkwind if want to add me to this guild...oh and I'll take any helpful advice, cause I'll need it :D

you're in 'pre-searing' at the moment.

i might be able to offer some help but if i'm on gw, i'm usually in gvg or hoh, so not alot of spare time. :x

Ahhh don't worry, found some friends and got through this searing. Unfortunately they had played it through before meaning they skipped the cutscene and I accidently did...meaning I don't know what the **** happened :D So right now I'm tracking down somewhere where I can download it.

an easier way is just make a new character, do a quest to get a second profession and that's all you need to go to the 2nd area. This time, don't skip it cause it's kinda cool. :D

The later parts of the game (post ascension) are awesome.

I'll be happy to send you an invite to HLR, it you're still interested. Most of us are in North America, so the times might be odd.

There's a lot of stuff to learn early on in the game that will make it much easier for you. If you have any questions or need help with anything, feel free to ask any of the HLR officers listed at the beginning of the thread.
