Guitar Hero 3 - First Impressions

I'll pass. The demo didn't do anything for me. I also heard they got rid of co-op and replaced it with some stupid battle mode. GG Neversoft.

Gonna pick up Rock Band over Christmas fo' sho' muh fukka.

Coop campaign is the ONLY local coop option though. After I had beaten the game myself, I wanted to play some of the cooler songs (read: one of the 3-4 I actually like) coop with a friend, and it would only let us play coop in the coop campaign, which meant starting ALL OVER.

It was around this time that I dropped the game and didn't pick it up again.

Rock Band ftw.

Heh, I finished the Co-Op campaign first, so I never encountered this problem.

The only problem I have with Rock Band, is its a great purchase as a game to play with a bunch of friends, but if the solo parts are just ok, then its not worth the $160 price tag IMO.

It's true that Rock Band is a much better multiplayer game. I don't think anyone doubts that. However, as far as difficulty goes, Guitar Hero III wipes the floor with Rock Band, and then some. I've seen expert-level guitar parts from the game and there's very little that a mediocre player couldn't deal with just fine. If you don't mind so much about the co-op aspect of the games, then you really aren't going to have nearly as much fun with Rock Band.

Rock Band definitely would fall flat if it wasn't for the party-game aspect. Without friends in the same room the game totally loses 80% of its appeal to me (I still love playing drums solo).

The difficulty in Rock Band is a lot lower for guitar, but it makes up for that in drums if you ask me. Guitar Hero guitar playing is a game whereas drumming in Rock Band...is actually drumming. Getting good at drumming in Rock Band will take a LOT longer to get good at (for the average person) that it takes to get good in Guitar Hero.

I know for a fact that I will NEVER be able to spend enough time to play THIS:

Actually, it's not really drumming - or at least, it's very simple drumming without any of the subtlety and technique that actually comes with playing the drums properly. For someone halfway familiar with the instrument, it doesn't look particularly difficult either. For the casual non-musical player, maybe it is a much greater challenge.

Also, that guy in the video could very well actually know how to play real drums.

Well it's as close to drumming as you get without grabbing a real set. I know there are many things that you don't do in Rock Band that drummers do, but the basic stuff is there unlike Guitar Hero.

You're right, that guy is a drummer and that's exactly why I won't be able to match him. I like it because it's pretty much a real-life skill unlike Guitar Hero.

I was just talking merely from a non-musical average gamer standpoint (which I'd wager most people that bought it are). Rock Band drumming takes longer to master than Guitar Hero.

About co-op, you can play with your friend outside the co-op campaign in GH3 by selecting multiplayer. Could be that i'm mixing it up with Face-Off, tohugh.

Anyway, GH3 is my first GH game and i'm loving it. Even the songs that i havn't heard or the type that i tend not to hear as much are awesome. My only gripe is about DLC, why do they have to charge money for them? :( It really is tempting.

So rock band is out in America... Any ideas what the date is for the UK release?

Having played the real guitar since about 1993, I'm not a fan. I'm glad others enjoy it however. My dislike is simply because I'd rather play a real guitar and this game doesn't give me that feeling in any way, shape or form obviously. I also suck at it and instead of practicing to get better at a video game, I'd rather practice and get better at the real thing. Again, I'm not trying to bash this game at all and I'm glad that people like it.

Got GH3 yesterday for the Wii, loving it so much. Great with friends and something I enjoy doing by myself too.

A lot better than I was expecting, ?50 from HMV too. :|

How's Knights of Cydonia? A couple of friends and I were discussing how it's not really the best guitar-based Muse song they could have chosen. Plug-In Baby ftw.

Agreed, they should of done a different Muse song, but it was alright. However I suck at GH pretty bad, so the song's really hard for me.
