Guitar Hero IV or Rock Band 2??

I've never owned any games prior in this series and want to know which series is better. If it makes any difference I'll get it on PS3.

Also is it worth it to just get the guitar and not the drums/mic?

Rock Band, 5 times the songs and the instruments the second time around don't break down. Plus you get new DLC every week. But if you don't have live/psn and don't want to spend money on DLC, I'd say go for GH4 and get the rock band guitar.

I'd get the whole set unless you're a sad lonely bastid with no friends

If you're getting just the guitar, go for GH. GH has the better setlist imo and apparently Rock Band just isn't as fun. (haven't actually played RB). It makes a difference to get it on PS3 as well, there's drastically better graphics, more save space (so more created characters), as well as weekly DLC. Note that GH boasts a far better character creator as well as a song creator and an instrument editor.

And the full set is fine for GH, because now you can get this drum sensitivity tuner program or something which according to a guy on the GH forums, works perfectly and he now has no instrument troubles whatsoever.

Such a vast array of songs to get, new hardware is solid, and just is a more fun game to play with people.

i own both gh4 and rb1/2 (and just the rock band instruments) and rock band is far and away the better and more polished game.

Plus you get new DLC every week.

and this seals the deal for me. anywhere from 3 songs to a full album's worth of songs released per week keeps the game fresh and constantly in my 360's drive. gh3's dlc has been painfully weak, and i'm not getting the impression that gh4 is going to even try to compete with rock band's weekly offerings.

I bought GH4 *since the PS2 version of RB2 isn't out yet* and I'm very disappointed at the game. I enjoyed how Rock Band did things a little different. No money so you don't have to worry about 10 screens at the end of each song saying how much you won and such. Also the choice of songs seems to be better. I facepalmed when I had to play Linkin Park.

Since I don't have the drums for GH4, I can't comment on that side of the game, but it does look massively awesome.

Thanks guys I'll probably get rock band 2 then but i'll need to wait cos it's not in the uk yet and i don't even know an expected release date

I figured that cos guitar hero was a bigger franchise/brand then rock band it would have more support, songs, DLC etc. but it doesn't look like it. This coupled with the fact i hear disappointed reviews of GH 4 i'll go with RB2

I find RB more fun because it is actually playable. GH3 completely turned me off of GH forever with its insane difficulty level.

I don't have a clue. I know rock band hates the pal areas but jeese at least try to make an effort.

BTW I have heard about the problems with the GHWT drums? Are they really that widespread? Cos if they are not then I'll just get GHWt and wait for RB2 on disc.

There's a Linkin Park song on RB2 as well :x

RB2 is a very polished game, and actually comes with more songs than GH:WT since you get 20 free downloadable songs that aren't on the disc itself. Plus you can rent RB1 and export nearly all of the songs from that to your hard drive to play on RB2 (cost of about ?5-6 to rent and then export I'd say).

I'd recommend RB2. Especially if you want to play with a bunch of people, and ESPECIALLY if they're more casual players. RB2 still has the hard stuff, but you can also set it so you can't fail so casual players can enjoy it.
