Guns powered up?

Just went to continue playing HL2 SP today, and Steam had an update to do, so I let it do its thing and watched tv for abit, when I came back the game was loaded, so I loaded my game and waited. Straight away I came across a bunch of Combine soldiers, I was low on ammo and knew that the SMG wasnt exactly ideal for the situation, but I fired anyway, and I took them all down relatively easy, it was wierd, it takes quite a lot from the SMG to take a Combine soldier down. But it was easy. Am I just going crazy or has anyone else noticed this?

Well, anything could have happened. Maybe some action you missed might have heavily damaged them. Maybe the update reset your difficulty to easy or normal. Maybe you scored some lucky shots in the upper-body/head area on these guys.
