I wasn't a witness to this but I came close.

Last night my roomate had a whole bunch of his friends over in our room. Nice people, and I already knew a few of them. We went out to the bars for a good friday night, I had a little to drink but I needed to study so I didn't have too much and I left early.

The rest of them came back, a couple hours later around 3:00am. Some were staying at our place for the night while a few others were going to stay at one of the other university residences that is on the other side of campus. I stayed home but on the way to this other residence this is apparently what happened:

As they were nearing one of the many parking lots 2 black guys around 21 came up to them and asked where the parking lot was. They said it was just around the corner and the two black guys ran ahead to go there. My friends kept walking and just as the parking lot came into view they heard a gunshot and saw one of the guys walking forward holding a gun (sideways too). My friends did the right thing and turned around, walked to a hiding place waiting for the men to leave. Soon after the police were there and they spent the next hour giving statements as to what they saw.

They didn't know if someone was killed because they didn't stay long enough to see and the police didn't tell them. Anyway this morning they were of course a little shocked and had a great deal of stuff to talk about today.

It kind of scared me not so much because I didn't think something like this could happen but because I didn't think it would happen on the university campus. There are always people around, police patrols 24/7, and literally hundreds of cameras keeping watch. I just didn't think anyone would be stupid enough to try anything.

Anyway I will certainly be hearing about this in the paper on monday. I will also be a little bit more cautious walking around campus at night.

By the way this is the University of Western Ontario in London.

At least nobody was hurt that you could tell of right off. I'm sure you woulda known if someone got shot.

Whew

And where was Big Brother?

Cameras won't protect you, only the banning of Airsoft.

Cameras are more meant to discourage people from commiting crimes in the presence of the cameras. So far they have done a really good job too where I live.

that's really shitty but Western doesnt have that sorta reputation ..so it's most likely an isolated incident probably involving people who dont attend (speculative but I'm going on past track record; western being one of the best universities in ontario)

I'm betting on that too. If they didn't know where this parking lot was then I can't see how they go here, it is a pretty easy thing to know about and isn't exactly hidden away on campus.

Stern how could you D:

Hahahahhaha, brilliant!

But besides Beerend's clever catch, that's awful. Damn gun violence to hell.

Egads. How exciting! And scary too. I hope nobody got hurt.

If that was supposed to be a joke, it wasn't funny.

Ahem, makes sense.

I attend and live near a very urban campus. This kind of thing is always on the back of my mind whenever me and my mates are walking about at night.

Everyone in my college has either a gun or a sabre... and we shoot shit all the time... I guess I'm just used to it

Haha @ sideways gun. Not going to hit anything except what you were trying not to.

I was referring to origional poster, there was no need to point out that they were black. RACISMISM!

If a shooting went on during school. I would probably run away, very far away.

Still, I hope no one got hurt.

Well black being a minority, and the most easy thing to remeber it was probably the easist description to make.

Contrary to popular belief, it is always safer to move towards the origin of the gunshots.

London Ontario is well known in the province as a nearly all white and very Christianized city. I also pointed out they were black because it was one of the few bits of information I was actually given.

Yes, because there's nothing like having pieces of metal fly through your head at high speeds!

Translation: Hello! My name is Racy McRaciston. I just HATE anyone that isn't white and Christianized.

I was sitting in a marine recruiting office waiting for some poolie to come in for asvab tutoring yesterday when gunshots rang out in the parking lot. I jumped to my feet, grabbed my cover, and ran outside. As soon as I got outside I saw a air force recruiter(the army, marine corps, air force, and navy all have offices next to each other) running back inside. He peaks back out of the door like a frightened turtle, not even opening it all the way, and says "Its ok! it was just a car! its ok!", to which my gunny, who was inside but in hearing distance, responded "Shut the **** up you ****ing pussy! ****ing pencil necked ******s never even been close to combat.".

After that I was laughing to hard to find out what the deal was with the gunshots.

It's kinda like that story in this month's PC Gamer about the difference between game designers and game executives:

DESIGNER: So, basically, it'll be a completely emergent system of play

Bang! The window breaks and gunshots are heard.

DESIGNER (diving to the floor): Oh shit, get down! GET DOWN!

EXECUTIVE (Rushing to the window): Who the **** is shooting at me?

its sad to hear about these incidents becoming a regular thing in Canada :|
oh well...Canadians voted in a PC government so lets see what gets done about guns and violence in general.

Why did he have to mention they were black?
Very, very racist.

Is that a Canadian uni in England, or something? Or is there a London in Canada as well?

Why? He was black. It's not racist to say black people are more likely to be criminals in America than whites, it's the a fact. Whats racist is how society drives them into crime.

sad but true
the fact that they were black is sadly relevant - it should be racist to point that out but in North America its unfortunately not because it does mean something :(

theres a London, Ontario, Canada ;)
also, about the this shooter being black...well im not racist or anything but if i were describing him, i would say "a black guy"
does that make me racist? no...im just describing what i saw/see.

Exactly, if it was a white guy you would say

'Some white fool was shootin the place up'

nothing racist about putting the situation into context.

F***ing political correctness! :flame:

On-Topic: Wow, scary shit dude, had me confused for a mo thinking UK! :O Good to see you and your mates are fine

*wags finger* Very, very racist!

Or, Steven, you could just shut the **** up and go home :)

Quoted for truth.

According to statistics in the US at least, 8% of the population is black. So by saying a "black guy" you narrow your description down to only 4% of the population. :|

Also, OvA, you're a f*cking moron. :)

Sorry to hear that Mullinator. Hope everything is okay. Last year a dude at my college murdered his dad and disfigured his mom with an axe. :P
