I'm thinking of buying GW, but I've heard both good and bad things about it. Apparently the community is a big let-down, but it's like that too in WoW plenty. D'you reckon I should buy GW or stick to WoW? Also, please support your opinions.

GW is much more fun if you know a few buddies who'll play it with you. If you don't want to pay monthly fees then GW is way to go.

WoW if you can afford the fees...

Unfortunately I can't so I have GW, but I voted WoW from playing the beta.

WoW gets boring fast. Grinding 8 hours straight for 1 lvl is no fun. Then when ya hit 60 its a big let down because you either do the same 3 pvp variants over and over or you do a giant raid and sit there for 10 hours hitting the same button over and over. No fun

I have played some GW and it's much more pvp oriented and seems like fun. Doesn't seem to have nearly as much content as WoW. WOW lasted me about 2 months before I got bored of it.

Guild Wars is so much better. PvP is really the main focus. It's on a whole nother level compared to WoW though. The PvE scenarios are not bad either at all.

I voted GW as well. I played WoW for 3 months before I cancelled my account. For GW, not only is there no monthly fee, but it's a really fun game to boot. Not to mention it cost me $50 and I've logged more than 700+ hours. If that isn't value, then I don't know what is.

In WoW, I managed to get to lvl 51 before I couldn't stand it anymore. It's just a big farm fest for the best gear. Pvp is a gank-o-rama, when you die you have to run to your corpse...(5-7 mins depending) then oh wait, the guys who ganked you are still there! So then you die again and repeat. (That's on a pvp server obviously because PvE is no fun) >.>

Another thing in WoW is travelling takes forever even with a mount. In GW, you travel to other towns (that you've discovered already) instantly. Which is a huge time saver.

I'm not saying that WoW doesn't have its good parts, but for me, the bad parts coupled with the monthly fee was just too much.

I voted Guild Wars simply because there's no monthly fee. If WoW is something you can afford, then I say go with wow.

Been playing WoW since it came out, and the same character since March... and I still get my $15/month out of the game eeeeeasily.

And the only reason I'd see for going for Guild Wars over it is just not being to afford the actual MMORPG (GW is just like a lame wanna-be).

I coudln't play WoW for more than 2 hours at all...GW kept me happy for a few months.

I got bored of WoW fairly quickly. But i have a feeling that had i stuck to it then i might have got some enjoyment out of it. I got to about level 10-11 and by that point was so fed up with the menial tasks to *bing*level up*bing* that i stopped playing. Which is partly a shame, because i didn't get to see all of the WoW world etc. I haven't played GW, but i like the look of the graphics better. Having said the above, i'm not a mmorpg type, so if you are you will most likely find either quite satisfying.

Been playing WoW since Christmas of '04, and I see no end in sight.

I am disappointed to see a few negative comments about the game, because people obviously didn't give the game a chance. People forget about PvP, which is one of the best parts about the game.

I read someone say above they played until level 10? Level 10?!?!? That's not a very long time to play at all considering the vastness of the game....

Indeed, it's not long in the overall scheme of things, but as dalamari says, you have to get up to level 30 odd to get to the good stuff, and i'm sorry but my time is better spent elsewhere.

Or maybe because they like Guild Wars gameplay just better....
Guild Wars and WoW are signficantly different in that area...

Neither of them.

Played two months of wow and after lvl 46 I got bored. I played Guild Wars about two months too.

Next mmorpg I'm waiting for is the D&D one.

Lies. I'm 38 and I'm very, very, EXTREMELY, bored.

I voted GW. I’ll admit I’ve never played WoW, but from what I hear about it, I think I’d grow bored pretty fast. For my $50 and no monthly fees, I’ve had hours and hours of fun playing GW. It seems to me that they are really two very different games, and it really depends on your personal preference, I guess.

As far as the community, I’ve met a lot of very helpful, friendly people, but the real key is finding a good group of people to play with, which I imagine is true for both games. I can always find something to do if I’m the only one in my guild that’s on, but the real fun is planning teams for PvP, guild battles, helping guildmates out and generally fooling around together.

I’ve enjoyed the PvE aspect of the game and still have some things to finish up, but PvP is certainly the best part of the game. I didn’t like it at first, but when I started to figure it out, the strategy and thought involved appealed to me. You have a primary and secondary class on your character. Each class has over 70 skills, giving you a potential of 140+ skills (which must be unlocked in PvE or through faction earned in PvP), of which you can select eight to take into battle. The combinations are endless.

The game is very well balanced, so nearly everything has a counter. You really do have to spend some time planning your build and working out tactics, and I can see how that wouldn’t appeal to some people. I'm not much of a strategist, but I've really been enjoying it and I like a game that keeps me thinking.

Tried both, liked none.
My vote goes to EVE online. Best there is.

How is it even possible that anyone could play Wow for 1 year? :O Simply can't understand how you stop yourself from being bored out of your brain.

I played Wow for 3 months when it came out - did nearly everything possible, experienced 90% of the cookie-cutter dungeons and quests, tried every class on both sides, explored loads of areas but eventually simply could not continue. Went back some months ago to find nothing had really changed, battlegrounds was a joke so didn't even bother finishing the full month.

I just couldn't physically play it now even if someone gave me an account.

Played guildwars, its a damn nice game, pretty, good fun, then I hit level 20, and just got bored, you can only do things if you go around in parties of 8, which kind of sucks. If you like strategic group PvP/PvE, GW is the way to go.

I then got WoW, after having played in the Betas, and am now in my 4th/5th month of it, seriously don't get WoW if you want to have a life, its addictive like... something very addictive.
It actually eats time.

Anyway, personally, both are good games, but WoW will keep you occupied for far far longer IMO.

But really, go with whichever you want.

I played Guild Wars for a long time and I really enjoyed the missions with bots or guildies. I have 4 chars past ascension with 3 completing the game but they are sitting there doing nothing now, I barely touched the new areas in the last big update. PvP was fun for a bit but my guild didn't do much of it, then eventualy I just realised that PvP wasn't very fun, it boiled down to getting uber builds and hoping the opposition didn't have counters or you had counters for their counters then repeat,

It's quite simple, really. Does WoW have an active HL2.net guild? No. Does Guild Wars? Yes.

Case closed.

Still 50-50. Well, it'd be better if I could test an account, but a friend's friend doesn't trust me. So I can't test GW on his account.

WoW is excellent. If you're like me and are not that into PvP, then you should go with WoW. WoW is so much fun just exploring and completing quests. I've plyaed for about 3 weeks now and not bored yet.

Give it time.

City... of... Villains?

I've only played WoW, but it really does get repedative. Although I won't deny that the flavour is excellent.

Well yeah in 2 days from now I'll have played 90 days.

WoW for PvE
GW for PvP

If you like grinding and getting tons of godly loot, go WoW. However if you like a game where it depends on skills and not so much on equipment then go GW. Also it's one of the most balance game ever, no unfair fights in PvP.
