Half Life 2 Benchmark:
We know the guys at Valve have been working hard on Half Life 2 for a many a year now. They pinged us back in July after taking a look at our Benchmarking Wish List. Here is what Gary McTaggart had to say in a very short and sweet email referring to our benchmarking requests of the game developer community.


Are there any other things that you are looking for in a benchmark? I think we'll be able to get most of those covered.

Outside of our wishlist we have not been involved in this process, but it looks as though we are going to have one hell of a benchmark based on Half Life 2...and possibly soon. This means that we now have a great chance of getting better benchmarks in every game that uses, what is sure to be, a stellar gaming engine used for many games over the next few years.

They're not going to release the benchmark after the game. That would be stupid.

no if its too do any good, it should be released before the game ships so ppl have a chance to upgrade whatever they need to run the game properly.

I think if the game is as close to going gold as we think it is, there's real chance that we'll get the benchmark this week (mind you including the weekend-since the 13th has been mentioned as maybe being the gold date, and thats a saturday)
