Info

Also, here is an e-mail that was sent to me
This FREE alert has been sent to you by Remote Assessment
The Remote Assessment Defacement Alert Project monitors hacker and hacking related websites and notifies individuals and organizations when references to their domains/websites appear.

www.remoteassessment.com

Why did I receive this alert?
It appears the website www.cw-meltingpoint.com (cw-meltingpoint.com) has been posted on a hacker defacement archive. This usually indicates an attack has already occured or is in progress by malicious computer hackers.

Hackers are well know for 'bragging' and displaying the websites they hack on public web-sites for all to see. The Defacement Alert Project monitors these websites and alerts appropriate administrative individuals as soon as possible to ensure damage is contained and remedied quickly and efficiently.

** Note: On occasion domain names are listed to these hacker sites although they have not been defaced. It is possible the attacker was unsuccessful or the posting was made in an attempt to receive credit for an attack that did not actually take place.

Remote Assessment is watching:
This information is gathered from publicly available archives which list the systems which are hacked for statistical purposes. Remote Assessment monitors these hacking lists and alerts administrative personel as soon as possible to limit damage and exposure. Website defacement hackers often post the systems which they have attacked on public archive websites to 'brag' and gain _respect_ in the hacking/hacker community. These websites often record the activity as 'snapshots' of history and rank individual hackers by collected averages and statistics.

Additional information, whitepapers, support and assistance are available 24/7: www.remoteassessment.com

IMPORTANT:
Remote Assessment is not affiliated in any way with the listers of hacking activities, electronic criminals or illegal hacking organizations of any kind. The information detailed in this email is an alert to notify administrative personel of a security incident involving a system / server / website under their control. *Note: The possibility exists that an attacker has added your system / site to a defacement list without an actual attack taking place. If this is the case, we apologize for any inconvenience and assure you that this is the case.

We offer a DO NOT ALERT list; should you wish to be added to this list, please reply to this message with 'REMOVE' in the subject line. Your email address will no longer be notified in the event it is publicly listed.

Hehe :P i know its not funny but that wasnt exactly the first thing that one would expect someone to post :P Anyways sorry bout your site... i dunno what to do thou... move on? get a firewall?

Man that sucks, I wish I could do something but I don't know much about running websites and servers.

I hope the damage can be easily repaired.

yeah, they didn't delete anyhting....they jsutreplaced all the index files (and damn, there are a lot of them)...

should be fixe dina few days.

They should hack someone who deserves it, like some pro-rascism site or something; use thier power for good, instead of obnoxious.

Also, what does that message they left even mean? Why do people think that it's cool to be stupid? Argh.

Its cool to be stupid when all of your friends are also stupid. Hes just showing off to all of his obviously unintelligent hacker buddies.

The moral of the story is.......

back up your files :o

Yeah, I remember a Max Payne fan site being hacked, and all files lost in the process (whether intentional or a by-product).
Luckily, you were more fortunate and that this was merely a defacement prank. Worse things could've happened.

Good Luck to you.

i don't know what sort of help you're asking for. you want us to assasinate someone? help repair your site? what? only thing i can suggest is contact your server provider and ask them to upgrade their security. make sure you tell them exactly what's happened to they can alert other users as well.

apart from that all i can say is it happens to people sooner or later, just pot luck i guess. probably someone doing it for a laugh. i knew a hacker who would do that to people's sites, brag about it, but put everything back to normal once he'd got his praise. doesn't look like it's that fellow.

Heh....I guess the hl2 community isn't quite , hmmm... "involved" as the AAops community was.... I'd jsut sorta like to know if we could figure out who it was.... with the aaops, after the first round of major hacks hit it, someone hacked *****'s website and put the goarmy.com website in it's place, but they included in the top corner "***** has been pegged by AAOp's grenade".

good times.
