Hacker holding real game?

It seems to me that somebody with the desire/skills/motivation to hack VALVE and steal the HL2 sourcecode would also steal all the resources that go with it, like models, sounds, maps, and textures. Since the sourcecode was held for awhile before being released, could the rest of the files be released eventually? I'm sure that if the hacker had access to so many valve computers, especially ones with sensitive information such as the sourcecode, that he would also be able to find an hl2 folder with everything in it to work, kinda like the doom3 alpha leak had.

He could find stuff like:

~ CDKEY Algorithms
~ Models
~ Sounds
~ Textures
~ Compiled Demos

Damnit, theres no limit.

lol maybe he's holding hl2 hostage and threatening to delete everything if they don't give him 1 million dollars. valve is negotiating and that's why when spitcodfry asked about the release date he said "we'll see" because he wasn't sure if they could get the game back. and now with 9/30 come and gone they haven't finished with the hacker yet :D

Well Valve would be plain stupid to not back every data up, on optical disks, storing them in a safe.

What if the Valve HQ burned down ? Would that mean HL2 was lost ? Ofcourse not!

Other way around : Why delay a game when the sources are public ? What's the point ? I am sure CD key algoritms can be changed with a few keypresses. It could also be ANOTHER cover up, just to hide some poor planning. They should not have announced HL2 for 31-9 if they couldn't make that date.

They overhyped themselves and A LOT of people will be/are disappointed now. Like me.

My Guess is that they DON'T have anything else based on what info I have read concerning the Criminal Elements.

If they had it would be out circulating allready just like the doom leaked demo.
The one thing that you can always bet that the criminals will do is NOT to practice any type of self-restraint or discipline at all.

Oh they can, but Valve would want the algorithms created from scratch, they must have no resembelance whatsoever to the current algorithms.

Who cares about CD keys?

Well think about the Steam subscription numbers etc.
They need to be re-made.

Give it 3 months, give or take a few weeks.

While those might look real, two of them are completely fake.

The other one is real, it's an actual HL2 screenshot from a long, long time ago.

Which one is the real one rec?
I'm guessing the first screenie is, but the weed currently destroying my braincells might give me the wrong idea.

Share the intellectual insight please.

They look rather real to me... I really must now how something like that can look fake...

A Leak = Terrible Trouble...

They might even need to change the CD Key algorithm...

it might even push back the release date.

Yes, the first (with the gunship in the picture) is the real one.

Wheres the last one from?
The gunship is phootshopped in by the way.

Has anyone thought that the hacker might have hacked valve because he was angry about HL2 not being released on time. Like a angry fan or something, i mean they did kind of tell us about hl2 not being released extremely close to the release date. i mean i was disapointed... and kind of angry... but not angry enough to actually steal the HL2 engine.

And since the delay wasn't official untill around 23/9 that would probobly not be the case.
