Face it. Parents try and raise their kids in ways that they think are appropriate. Kids (especially around the age of 5) will watch a movie like Saving Private Ryan and not realize that what the soldiers were doing was good and noble. Try tell them that. Yeah...killing people is alright. Young'ns are VERY impressionable. Showing violence that extreme to them is EXTREMELY stupid. I'm sure you'll start second-guessing your own "everything's ok" attitude if/when you have kids of your own.

Would you show your kid a porno? By your logic, it's ok because they're eventually going to learn about it anyways. Why not shove it down their throat (heh) at the earliest possible age? AND if you don't want to, your sheltering them from the real world. Guess what?
The real world sucks. People exercise ignorance in many ways/shapes to help them think that the real world is nothing more than what's in front of them. Iv watched super gore movies since i was 4+ I remember watching movies like The blob, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on elm street + i played a crap load of games even then. It hasnt effected me one bit. I still watch a crap load of movies. I still play a crap load of games. How i feel is, if a human cant control himself, cant brush away or understand the fake and real or the entertainment from serious they are just a weak person. Ya very young kids shouldnt generally watch gore/sex but when your 5-10 you dont remember shit from those days. So if you saw something at some random time, watched some movie you wont remember it for it to effect you.

Is everybody here against Mediafamily now? To be honest I have to agree with them on many points: There is, according to their research on the website and many other studies, a negative effect of exposure to violence for children (this isn't about 'knowing the world', it's about mental health; development of aggressive or anti-social behaviour), children's content should be monitored by parents up to a certain age, there are fun non-violent/sexual games, etc.

They are not trying to censor the industry, here is a quote: "We do not advocate censorship of any kind. We are committed to partnering with parents and other caregivers, organizations, and corporations in using the power of the free market to create healthier media choices for families, so that we have healthier, less violent communities." They are trying to educate families into choosing appropriate games for kids and create a demand for more appropriate games in the future-- is that wrong?

The fact is that if a kid's parents don't let him play a violent game, he can simply play it at a friend's house. Violence and sex sells no matter how unhealthy they might be. A number of posts have acknowledged that parents are to blame-- the problem is that many parents do not realize what is going on in the video game industry, they think video games are toys like any other toy. There is a need for widespread education on this topic- many of you will agree to that.
If a parent came to me asking about what video games are okay for their 10 year old child to play I wouldn't mind recommending them that site at all.
 
I am not trying to take sides but I completly disagree with video game violence. If someone has the mental problems enough to go out and kill an innocent person, its their own problem, and even if they played a video game that had that, its still their fault they went out and did that. Plus, millions of people own GTA, do you see daily drive-by's now? It may have "caused" a couple, but it doesn't influence kids to, maybe just some tard or two.

Plus, that kids a n00b!111!one!!1 don't kill teh prostitutes newb!1!!

Here if you want to make sure that your kid does not buy mature rated games. All you have to do is buy your kid a Nintendo system and then Dont get any games with the title Resident evil in it. Then you will have a impenetrable shield called Miyamoto protecting you kids from Mature games. That is what my parents did. So I am off to play Doom 3 and then login another 20 hours into FFXI. :cheers:
 
It's the parent's responsibilities to teach their children what's real and what's not. Video games have nothing to do with it.....

Besides ESRB is a guidence system it is a warning for parents to use guidence, not a licence. Shit I buy games a lot because of it's M raiting.
