Half-Life² and photo-realism

There was a few parts in the game where i felt i was seeing something out of a myst game :-P. Anyways take pic(s) of parts in the game that you thought looked very close to a real life picture through a combination of lighting\art\location or all 3.

Yea screenshots make it look worse but in-motion it looks a lot better
 
 
my favorite looking part of the game is near the end of sandtraps where you go through the little cave and the combine fire red flares throughout it. whoa that looks badass

the wall shot isnt really about great graphics i just found it to be intriguing

When I first played the game, I was really amazed about the graphics, because I thought it wouldn't look that nice, since the game was supposed to come out 2003. Then I tried putting 4x AA on just to see how good it might look, and actually it ran really smooth (would've never thought so on my current rig) and I played the game with 4xAA to the end. My current rig is XP 2600+, 1024mb and Radeon 9500 pro.

Esp. the city graphics were amazingly realistic. Wonderful textures, perfect lighting and fog and sky etc... Die Combine MF's!! :sniper:

technically there is no way to say its sunrise or sunset
but when you played the story, youll see its sunset :)
 
I, for one, was simply amazed by the look of the water. I never believed that anyone would be able to do realistic water effects any time soon, but Valve definitely proved me wrong.

Technically, in real life at least, the warmer air at the end of the day carries more dust and water vapour that, combined with a few other elements like more insects and pollution in the air diffuses the light and produces brighter, more vivid colors in the sky in warm hues. At sunrise colder, heavier air and dense moisture produces somewhat less vivid colors in a cooler spectrum. :p

I watched a vid from a software company that had written an engine for the soul purpose of water fluidity. Example: Bucket full of water, hole appears near bottom of bucket, water flows out. But the amount of cpu power required to run these physics calculations on top of a performance game is outrageous, hence why we don't see this yet.

super mario sunshine also has incredible water. it's more interactive, too. waves, ripples, etc.

Thats because its only purpose was too make fun of Doom 3. The guy didnt even attempt to emulate the look of FC or HL2. (Dunno what your seeing in the FC pic anyway)
 
Yeah...I think that if you take a moment to be a photographer, you can get some very nice images.

The "D3 rock" is making fun of how dark the game was

I'm as clueless as you on the FC rock.
 
I get it, but I can't explain it.

Basicly it's referring to the fake looking graphics I think..but they look nice still.

Like I said, I can't explain it well, but I do get it.

Everything in hl2 is insanely good looking. Keep in mind people the down graded the gfx and it still looks insane. Hl2 is the full power of source. Which is amazing.
 
How do I get mine pics on here?? Everytime I try to upload it cancels.
