is it worth getting?? if havnt played it ........or is all the information from it in half 2 and so on???

HL1 and its expansion are essential if you have a steam account.

All Valve games are worth getting :D

If it's cheap, which I'm sure it is, there's no question about it.

Personally, I just read up on half life then played half life 2. It was fine, after I watching a youtube vid on the summary of half life 1. Best thing is, it also added in the end how the combine attacked earth during a seven hour war and how Breen took over. So I pretty much understood the hl2 starting immediately.

I would recommend playing it just for the resonance cascade. That's one of the best intros I've ever seen.

That's absolutely true. It may not seem so now, but when it came out I was just blown away as it was the only game with this "cinematic quality" I had played.

Your life is incomplete if you never experience the majesty that is Xen. Buy Half-Life 1.

No matter the price, nor how aged the graphics may seem, play Half-Life 1. It's an amazing exprience and you will understand better the whole story.

P.S: when you finish it, you will realize why the critics said it was revolutionary

Xen fans unite. Even after all these years I find it the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen in a game, and such a stark contrast to the rest of Half-Life. You spend the whole game in a closed facility of sterile walls and dank industrialized areas, and as your journey toward Lambda Core reaches a head you're transported to this open, organic, vibrant world. The first glimpse you get of Xen will always be my favorite vista.

A staff member who likes both opfor and xen?

Great Scott!

Half-Life 1 is dumb, do not buy it, waste of your time and energy, it's hardly playable... that is if you're blind and have no arms! Psych! Get it! Half Life 1 is awesome!

I hate it when people don't play Hl1 before Hl2, or don't appreciate HL1. Get now.

It's pretty unpolished and very, very sloppy in places but it's definitely worth a play.

Valve captured the alien, unfamiliar feel of Xen perfectly.

We knew as soon as we saw it that this wasn't just another planet. It was another universe.

It's been so long, the game is almost sacred to me now. :p

I went on steam and found HL1 and HL1 source whats the difference and which is better?

HL1 Source runs on the HL2 engine and has ragdolls and improved lighting. What it does not have is mod support.

On amazon you can get Half Life Anthology including HL1, opposing force, blue shift and team fortress classic for under ?7 which is way cheaper than steam so screw steam lol

HL:Source has the same gameplay, textures and models as HL1. In addition, it has the sexy refractive water from HL2 and much better lighting and shadows.

Conclusion
: Buy HL1, it's cheap. And then wait like the rest of us for the Black Mesa mod for HL2.

What's Black Mesa Source by the way?
Black Mesa a.k.a Black Mesa Source is a fan-made recreation of Half-Life using the HL2 engine to it's full potential. It hasn't been released yet.

This is a link. Click it.

does that mean that all the characters will look like they do in HL2 instead of giant human shaped boxes?

I played the original HL1 back when it was first released and loved it. But now days when i've re-played the game, i've only played Half Life: Source.

yeah, get the original one. Or the pack thats is (supposetly) $7 that jakesp mentiond

i've had the original game forever and i've yet to beat it without cheats. but in my opinion hl1 is the hardest of the series. back when only leet gamers could beet games (or anyone other than me).

Or just wait a year or two for Black Mesa (which has been in develepment for how long? 3-4 years now?)

I played HL1 on hard, and it is slightly harder than HL2. Even though the games in the HL series, have never been really difficult. And I don't know why, but I prefer the original rather than HL: Source. I think I'm kinda nostallgic, and besides I don't really care about graphics, they don't make a good game. So choose whichever you prefer

I don't mean to offend you, but wow. HL1 isn't all that hard, it's just that you have to abuse quicksave/quickload.
Some of HL2's defence sections are much harder than HL1.

It's a matter of taste really.

One nerd's struggle to survive vs. one nerd's attempt to redeem himself by fighting an interdimensional empire.

do u think they would remake half life 1 with half 2 graphics

I think someone should remake HL1 in Source, that'd be neat.

Still one of the best games to date. I would if I were you :)

if youre gonna post please for the love of god can u read the previous posts otherwise its just a giant circle. if BMS is jus HL1 but with better graphics are they better than HL1:source?

^ Hell YES. All hl: source does is it adds physics, ragdolls, sprites, textures, it includes the SD models, but overall it isn't too big of a change. BMS on the other hand completely redoes the whole of hl1 in source graphics, now we're talking about everything here, levels, models, it's just hl1 with hl2 graphics, whereas hl: source is hl1 with hl1 graphics, only with some added effects.

So to answer the question, yes BMS has better graphics, but it still isn't released.
Seriously, you could have just checked the BMS website (which has been posted numerous times) to find that out.

HL1 is a game that will never Die. It'll still be around in another 20 years...

And that's for a reason... buy it!

Yes that is true HD pack wont work with HLS
