Half Life 2, 9800XT to be launched at Alcatraz Sept 30th

someone should ring up the place that owns Alcatraz and try and book it for sept 30th, and see if its booked by valve

OK one of you "nerds" out there has to work as a security guard near or around Alcatraz, or have a nerdy friend that does. Get some information!!

I am wearing my stupid hat today. Why, exactly, are they launching this at Alcatraz? Is this totally bizarre to anyone else, or am I a confused minority of one?

People are guessing that there is a "prison" level in HL2. Maybe the initial place to break out of, you know where you have been spending the last 9 years because you backstabbed the G-Man. Course Im have no idea what I am talking about.

No, you're not the only one. I, too, am wondering why ATi chose a busted up old prison to host their event... Doesn't seem like a real friendly place people would want to have such an event.

Any1 know if its the HL2 SP+MP thats shipping with the 9800XT?

no its has'nt been confirmed which sku its gonna be, but its highly likely that it the sp+mp version.

Only ATI truly knows.......and possibly Valve, and Sierra, possibly Vinvidi(sp).....

As someone said there's a prison in Half-Life 2 that look very much like Alcatraz. (It's in the bugbait video and you can from the outside in one of the screenshots).

Umm.. first off .. who the hell is the Inquirer and what makes them so trustworthy as to what is happening with HL2 and ATI's next cards?

Secondly, this sentence don't make much sense...

"all Radeon 9800XT cards will be shipped with this card and this is likely to cost ATI some serious money"

all cards are shipped with this card?

I honestly won't believe anything anyone other then Valve , and this Inquirer sounds like a publicity stunt.

It's obvious, just look at those pictures :

Is this a prison or perhaps alcatraz or not?
I can't wait to see the show in alcatraz with marines shooting at ant lions...

The inquirer is quite a reliable UK news site, if you'd have spent an extra five minutes looking through the rest of the site you would have found this out. :)

Who was that guy who said he would eat his own faeces if it released 30 September 2003. You know the guy who pulled the release date Feb 2004 from the same hole his next meal will be coming from. Hope he has some ketchup to go with that.

Seriously this makes it almost certain they will make the release date, at least in the US and on Steam, and if publication is delayed in the UK I can always buy it over Steam, to bad for VU but we get a bit sick here of having to wait weeks or months for the same game to reach the UK.
:afro:

There could be some logic here... Gabe says it's an ATI event that Valve just happened to get an invitation to. But the reality is that it's THE HL2 launch event. I mean, Sept 30! hello?!?

I hope People are not stupid enough to actually buy the 9800xt. I have a 9800 Pro and its easly overclockable to xt stats. Right now im at 440/370.

But im not complaining!!!

W00T! :bounce:

15 More DAYS PEOPLE! 15 :dork:

Yeah I have a 9800 Pro as well, but if I didn't I might well think of the 9800xt. It all depends on how much spare cash you've got and what your upgrading from.

well it will be like this, the 9800 non pro can overclock to Pro stats, and 9800pro can overclock to xt stats and the xt will be able to overclock well over what either of them can do.

So do you think the 9800's price will go down any or do you think the XT will just be more expensive?

I take it that if they're launching the card and HL2, then HL2 must be in a fit state to ship itself, is probably on schedule, and will indeed ship on the 30th?

Maybe I'm just reading too much into this?

i think the XT will just be more expensive

no its 250 pounds for 128mb and 370 pounds for 256mb

Who would pay 50% more for something that adds virtually no performance gains?!

did you even bother to read the article? the 9800XT will retail at $399, which i believe is the MSRP of the 9800 Pro right now, so most likely the 9800P will get a little cheaper. The XT won't actually be in stores until mid-october though.

Hate to mention the obvious :dork:

but the fact that ATI are releasing a graphics card just to coincide with the 30th September practically confirms HL2 is 30/9 (9/30 for our american friends :bounce: ) as ATI would have to get the most reliable info about a release or else they would lose lots of cash. :bounce:

well the card won't be for sale on the 30th, as the article says, it'll be for sale 2-3 weeks afterwards, so it gives valve some breathing room.

Damnit, I hate it when I do that....

I was confused, the reliable UK news site is in fact www.theregister.co.uk
NOT the enquirer, I'm forever confusing them.
The Inquirer is a tabloid publication and should not be trusted.

you're thinking about the National Enquirer. That's a tabloid. The Inquirer is a very reliable hardware news site.

US based.

LMAO, if you believe that then a year ago you would have believed the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra would be shipping on time.

lol inquirer.net is the most unreliable Hardware news website in existence, where you got that out of is beyond errm cross that out, below my level of comprehension.
