Half-Life 2: Aftermath Update

oh, i already missed doug saying that one of their projects has been delayed. the good ol valve press statements.

well, you can wait a bit longer, when you know it's going to be another awesome game anyway, don't you...

where's g-man when you need him! ;(

Nice how you name the newspost "Aftermath update" instead of "Aftermath delayed" :D

I think the second we saw Aftermath Update, we all knew what was coming

I thought it was a few more screenies or something, but meh, this was expected :p

Whilst I fully appreciate that waiting for aftermath will be worth it for a polished product. I believe that Valve need to forget about the episodic every-6 month update that Gabe has been quoted on in various gaming magazines. I mean its been a year (nearly) since HL2 was released and they cannot finish the first expansion until Feb/Mar ?? Im afraid that unless you radically increase your productivity Valve that it's just a pipe-dream.

I really dont mind the reason for the delay, I just wish they could give us more realistic eta's, overestimate is my view, think of when you think it will be finished and then add a few months, that way it comes out on time or early.

Valves ETA's suck I dont think even one has been accurate, if only they had given us some new info as a way of saying sorry, we wanna make the game better give us time.

You obviously haven't been paying much attention, they've been working on more than just AM. Now lets just say they only were working on AM, I bet they could have it done by now.

Perhaps you haven't been paying much attention, Valve have, what they define as, cabals - distinct teams who have a distinct responsibility. If Valve want to seriously consider episodic 6 month content updates to the HL world then they need to seriously think about expanding or giving more resource to the "cabal" team in charge of HL developments.

The alternative way at looking at it though is that Valve already have Aftermath in a complete state, and that they are using timing tactics to be able to reach the episodic content goals which Gabe is defining. I mean look at the Lost Coast, it seems that it may have been ready 6 months ago, so why the long wait until November for release ? I mean you cant say they have been bug testing it ffs ? An update for the "jesus stance" bug on the NPC's was released a week or so later, you mean to tell me with all their bug testing on lost coast that they missed it ??? No - Lost Coast has been sitting around finished for a long time, and for some reason Valve decided to release it in November, even though it, possibly, could have been ready for the last 6 months. Why do you think this was the case ?

Pffft, it's all about business marketing and clever use of timescales.....

I still cant wait for Aftermath though, and will patiently wait with cash-in-hand (only if they fix the stutter bug though! surely they have had long enough to diagonse and fix the problem by now ?) :p

[SARCASM]Oh, yeah! Thanks VALVe for delaying again!!! I'm so happy you delayed the game, gives me more time to play HL2![/SARCASM]

Seriously, how could anyone take it as a good news? Anyways, it's not like i'm surprised...

Thanks for telling me about cabal's too bad I know of them via RTB, kthx. And just because they have cabals doesn't mean they are all working on AM. I doubt all of VALVe is.

Well maybe they should be, btw wheres TF2, Valve "More info about TF2 soon" this was said around HL2's release.

Valve to reorganise

Ahh.... I've been released from Jail! Feels good... anyway;

Even with Valves little cabals or whatever they're called, they still have to split up the team. That's what happens when you have a developer work on a) an expansion pack for their game, b) regular updates and fixes, c) new content such as maps, mods, etc, d) probably working on HL4 too all at the same time. PLUS any outside help to other developers that need the assistence from liscensing (sp?) their engine. Valve is swamped.

No matter which way you look at it, cabal or no cabal..we still gotta wait for it. So just relax. Relax and enjoy yourselves b\c it seems to get a little heated from what I'm reading.

As long as Sin Episodes Make its release date of nov or dec evrything will be stable..

ROFL! I bet they forgot about HDR until the crowds asked:
"Will HDR appear in Aftermath?"
"Uuuuh, didn't think of that one - we'll get back to you on that..."
November release date? BOOM HEADSHOT!

The only thing I can say is I hope the expansion is at least long enough to make it worth the wait..........and I agree with the earlier post.....'Hope they're working on HL3 because at this rate, it'll take years'.

Unfortunately, it seems like it's taking as long to make sequels for games as it is for full length movies. It's a total bummer to think that there would be as much of a gap for a pc game sequel as there would be for.......say.........a Star Wars movie.

I think that for HL2, an exception should be made. Imagine HL3 with realistic water physics :O

Sort of good in a way.... Too many games coming out this holiday season....Not enough money.

Man, i really should replay HL2...

But then i won't have time to play City of Villians... bah. Curse you, a lack of a disposable income! CUUUUURRRRSSE YOU!

No worries here. It's done when it's done.

I'll never get the anger that comes with delays. It's not a life saving liver or kidney, it's just a game.

A lot of good games out there to play, as well as real life to play. A lot of good books to read, some crappy movies to watch, houses to paint, serial killing to plan etc. ;) Patience.

I don't have a real life since i got a saturday job and this new pc :( ....

The argument that they should have released Aftermath half year after's Half-Life 2 release is not valid.

Valve mappers were working on DoD: Source and new content for DM and CS: S. The coders probably were working their ass of in getting a good way of implementing HDR (if you read the HDR inteviews, Gabe mentioned they have tried before HL2's release, but hey coudn't implement it well). Not to mention a lot of bugs they had to fix when HL2 came out (Steam connection issues, sound stutering, etc)

Valve focus now is releasing the extra content of CS: S. After that, I belive they will try to polish up AM, while still having some DoD: S content out.

I like how everyone knows how a developer should be ran and all this other mumbo-jumbo.

I dont pretent to know how to run a company, the evidence for something needing to change is that all Valve games are delayed 6+months. This to me suggests the teams arnt big enough, not rocket science.

Oh they are delayed eh? Last time I remember DoD:S came out on time.

Aftermath is gonna so sick, so you think that HDR lighting will make it worth getting a 7800 al together, anyway i just T9'ed everyone in the clan about aftermath

always look into the bright side, eh?
Arghhhhhh...just finished replaying HL2 for the #XXXX^xxth time and everytime it just end up with that explosion with a huge'' Oops, cliff hanging, cliff hanging decteted'' hanging on it....
arrrrhrhhhhhhhhh.....................
