Half-Life 2: Already gold?

Here's an interesting idea. Keep in mind this is just pissing into the wind here:

What if it turns out, much how Valve was very secretive prior to E3 about HL2, that HL2 has already gone gold and is off to Sierra for reproduction & packaging?

Hmm..

There are plenty of arguments for or against this theory (personally I find it highly unlikely), but what do you guys think?

It is possible, but remember they still have a week (at least) before it HAS to go Gold.

I had a torturing dream this morning that seemed to last forever. In it I somehow received Half-Life 2 in the mail two weeks before it was supposed to ship. This is odd seeing as how I pre-ordered it at EBX. What sucked about it is that the installation process never ended, so sadly, I never got to play it.

imo the game cant come out on the 30th because its not a friday in the UK and as far as i know games only come out in the UK on a friday.

However the 3rd is a friday.

I severly doubt it has already gone gold. When you go into mass production then everyone working at the plant(s) is then aware of what it is they are producing. It would inevitably slip out quickly after production started.

They dont g.a.f. about what day it comes out on
if it comes out friday it will be in stores wednesday then next week, because there is no deliveries over the weekends

Well am I wrong, do games get released other than a friday? Last time i checked they didnt. If im wrong tell me. I was just going by what I know in a logical fashion.

Take UT2K3 for example.. that was in shops the monday but the shop refused to sell it me until Friday.

lol Valve is an american company, I don't think they would change their entire release schedule so that it is inline with what appears to be the standard in the UK.

Well what you know and what Valve knows are two very different things. Distributors in the US probably don't care what other country's standards are for shipping dates. As long as its out the door and has a price sticker on it, its a go.

Im talking UK release.. not America. However Valve have said world wide release so it stands to reason a UK limitation will affect America.

Im only going by what I know, games might be avalible in the UK on other days.

i mean... come on.

they get releaed Friday and get in stores the next Tuesday or Wednesday?

the people that make it just want it to go out there!, the best time to release a game is Monday or Tuesday.

I remember when GTA Vice City was coming out. It was sposed to be out on a Friday but I'd got it on Wednesday before.

Normally when the games are relased on Friday here, the retailers have had them for days.

True, they can't receive the games on the release day because they have to price them, add them to the inventory, stock them, prepare the pre-orders, etc...

Usually, in British and European shops, yes. However, when it is a synchronised world-wide release then it doesn't matter. I believe this was the case with Enter the Matrix but correct me if I'm wrong.

Most major CONSOLE titles are released over here on a Friday however none major titles for consoles and nearly ALL pc games are released when they are told to.

e.g. Sept 30th *SHOULD* be the day Game (UK) have the game on the shelf ready to buy.

they should technically have it in store at least a day if not week before that.

Zelda:WW was in my local game a WEEK before it was on the shelf. I know this as fact because they showed me it up stairs boxes of zeldas!

EVERY PC game i have ever looked forward to playin (which is a lot) has been released (well, not actually released... more like put on the shelf) on a friday in the UK, you pop into your local eb in the uk and ask what new PC games are coming out that week then ask them what day and they'll tell you friday.... not sure if this is true with any other game store but eb, 99% of the time put the games on the shelf's on friday... hell I should know, I phone up every friday to see what new games are out for PC :cheese:

and to prove it, ive gone onto eb/games website and checked out the next 2 weeks releases for the pc, and to my surprise (NOT) ALL the games come out on a friday.
just keep checkin further down on games coming soon page and every expected release date will be on a friday!!

yep, I second that... doesnt really matter to me though, I'll just dl hl2 off steam.... would like to have boxed version though, but you never know... it might come out on the 30th in the uk but i doubt it.

Wouldn't it be great if they put this puppy on shelves a good 1-2 weeks before the 30th? Probably not gonna happen, but you never know.

I was thinking bout this the other day...pretty much most of the valve team is in Europe for the expo thing. Lombardi said they were heavily playtesting the game right now and thats pretty much it. I think once they get back they will send it off and it will be gold if nothing was found wrong by the playtesters
