You have a barton 2500 and it's not overclocked. That's you're problem right there.

well thanks for that ****ing informitave post. fyi, i'm not filled with money. I can't upgrade my processer, and I don't have a good enough fan. why can't anyone be useful and link me to tweaks, or drivers? it's stupid.

i got HL2 today and have tried the benchmark at :-

1024x768, max settings, 512mb heap size

I ran the d3c371 bench mark and got:-
42.3fps 4x AA 4x AF
47.4fps no AA, trinear filtering

I also ran the coast becnhmark but seem to get around 50 fps everythime even when changing resolution or adding/taking away AA or AF up to 4x

my system is
athlon 2400xp at 166fsb, 1gig of dual channel ddr333, radeon 9800 non-pro 128mb, epox nforce 2 board, windows pro.

does this sound about right for my system?

What settings should i choose for smooth gameplay (25-30fps the min) in half life 2? Im thinking of setting shadows to low as im not bothered too much about them and it may allow me to run AA or AF instead. What you guys think?

Thanks
BYF

Wow, those x800s really do the trick on HL2!
Actually, they "do it" for any game. I have yet to find one that pushes the card. Although the Nvidia cards are faster in some games (one that support SM3.0, mostly), ATI's current top cards are quite the thing to behold. I used to use an ASUS 9800pro/tvd256, and it just pours heat out into the case. The X800's, though, they are nice and cool...and quiet too!

OT Why does HL2 take so long to load? My specs are below,
surley it should load quicker? Inc in game loads???

AMD Athlon 64 3400+, Radeon 9800 256Mb, 1Gig RAM, WinXP SP2, 5.1 Cats....

TOO SLOW BY HALF. It's always seemed to be fine for me in game, but I had no idea I was running this slow compared even to people who have lower spec'ed systems. What the hell is going on?! Anyone help?

It turns out I actually had AF set to trilinear....I bumped it to 4x and got exactly the same results. Tried 16x out of interest and got 20.7 fps. Admittedly it can't go much lower....ideas?
