Roseville, California – (November 9, 2004) – Prima Games and Valve today announced the availability of the first two official Half-Life 2 publications – Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar and the official Half-Life 2 game guide – both scheduled to arrive in retail outlets around the world on Friday, November 12, 2004.[br]
[br]
Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar is a 288-page, hard-bound publication that chronicles the origins of Valve, development of Valve’s first games, and covers the making of Half-Life 2 in great detail with hundreds of exclusive images, interviews and more. [br]

Visit your local or favorite online retailer now to purchase a copy of both publications. Or visit www.primagames.com for more information.[br]

About Valve[br]
Founded in 1996, Valve creates entertainment software titles, including Half-Life®, Counter-StrikeTM, and Team Fortress®. Great X-mas present that Raisng the Bar book will be.

Oooo yeah! didn't even think of that one! Nice idea! :)

LOL, whit the strategy guide you know how to finish the game before it isn't even released yet.

F the strat guide, i want Rasing teh Bar!! So it's coming on a friday eh? ill have to go check my local game store.

I think its a shame that they release the strategy guide 4 days before the game... I can't think of any reason why anyone would want to spoil a game they've worked 6 years on just 4 days before release.

It reminds me of all the movie-based games that get released weeks before the actual movie is *cough*StarWarsPrequels*cough*

....wtf is Valve thinking?! They should release on the DAY of Hl2. not 4 days before.
*puts on Spoiler resistant goggles*

yay!! ::D
been waiting for this for a while cause we were led to believe this book would be available a few weeks before the release of the game.

so finally.. i can't wait!!

Amazon etc. aren't actually receiving them until Friday so the earliest people will get them is Monday. It won't be a big issue.

Kadayi Polokov asked me about the modder's guide so I e-mailed Jess Cliffe and he had this to say about it:
Nothing to announce on that.

now a lot of idiots will start to post spoiler as crazy :(

They'll somehow lose access to their accounts if that happens before November 16th :)

The Half-Life 2 Official Game Guide, I am gettin it.

hmm..this book we are talking about is not a game guide man.
it is a behind the scenes look at Valve and the making of HL2.

the game guide u are referring to comes with the Steam Gold package.. and im sure it can be bought separately as well at a store.

And if it happens after the 16th? I myself will be taking more than one week to play through the game. I'm sure you meant something else.

I seed ~10 copies at a local walmart of the game guide. How can this news be true? They had a price of ~25$ or something. I took a peak and was surprised on how short the game looked. ;(

Its allready out!

load of rubbish, VALVE are not responsible for 88% of the online action market at all, infact all they are responsible for is about 0.3% for hldm as all the dedicated mod makers are responsible for the rest

ooh, cant wait to get my hands on 'rising the bar' should be an interesting read.

Yes! Friday! Woot!!!!!

350 page strat book doesnt seem like a short game.

(Halo 2 8 hours to beat)

I don't understand why anyone buys game guides ever.. they are expensive and just full of spoilers. If you really need to find out "hidden secrets", all that info will be on the net in a month or two anyway. Raising the Bar could be quite cool, but I doubt I'd actually spend the money.

Raising the Bar should be available Friday or Saturday in actual stores like Barnes and Noble or Borders, right?

yeah im wondering if the book will come to barnes and nobles.

Anyone know what price these books will have? Mostly interested in the RTB of course.

Well most of that market comes from Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat. Yes they were mods but the teams are now a part of Valve so yes that is Valves market share most likely.

Why the hell would anyone want an offical strategy guide for HL2?

I'll try to stay away from these forums next week. Just in case. Don't want to get the game spoiled the day before release.

I'm not to happy about one of the book revealing the in-game secrets. It would be more fun looking for them with the rest of the players (for example forum members), than having them already uncovered in a book.

I'll see tomorrow which one to buy.

I saved £90 from this months wages, I get payed next friday at least £200. It works...

Hell I might buy HL2 retail, and raising the bar. Do I wan't to buy the prima guide too?

....wtf is Valve thinking?! They should release on the DAY of Hl2. not 4 days before.
Dude... just don´t read it! I´ll probably avoidthe forums a bunch before the release of the game, although I think people should have the sense to use the spoiler tags.

hey y'all...
this question is for anyone who actually has a copy of 'raising the bar' in their possesion:

is the book hardcover or not?

amazon et al say softback, valve/prima say hardback. which is it?

thanks immensely!
