Half Life 2 "BUGS" and Starship Trooper "BUGS"

so basically if i make a robot that looks like a trashcan someone will say im copying starwars....

never mind the thousand other peices of media that have trashcan like robots...im copying starwars.

...if i make a giant 2 legged fighting robot someone will tell me i copied gundam or battletech or any of the other 5 million things that have giant fighting robots in them.

Everyone ignored my post and just kept being tools about a subject that doesn't deserve more then 6 posts.

Ignorance is Bliss
Religion is the opiet of the masses
Forums are the killing ground of common sense

(the last one was mine) OOOOOH BOY origenality. LOOK OUT PEOPLE I might have stolen that last one from somewhere while I was working with a writer whilst reading philosophy. This isn't a topic about plagerism it's a lesson in ignorance and futility. Ignorance of propper spelling aside.

Uhh.... I'm with magnetic here. The do in fact have very little in common. A few examples would be that the lions forelegs are attached behind the body even though they're forelegs, while the trooper bug has "proper" forelegs. Furthermore does the the trooper bug have those 2 massive jaws while the antlion does not. Oh and the antlion is much more round in it's shape.

I do, however, not agree with your bashing of the guy. I do not like bashing in general.

Please say if I expressed myself unclear. English isn't my first language :-P

Oh... I didn't realize there were 6 pages. Only though there was 1 :-P. Excuse me if some of my points are repetitions...

*EDIT* Just found out all of my points were repetitions. Carry on lads, nothing to see here...*/EDIT*

I just remembered that Antlions were originally in HL1 but were taken out, which was before SST was released... I think.

Wonkers: You obviously didn't read my post, this is how forums work. Nobody paid any attention to my post either or atleast didn't try thinking of a counter argument for it.

starship troopers bugs are insects (6 legs - 3 sections)
antlions aren't insects (4 legs)

but yea, they DEFINITELY look alike -- same kind of concept.

erm................no! for gods sake, when I first saw the antlions I nearly laughed at the pure similarities to SST 'bugs' there essentially the same apart from the colour, you can argue till your blue in the face about the amount of legs but in the end THEY LOOK THE SAME or at least EXTREMELY similar (not even considering the fact one of the designers worked on SST)

fanboys get over it, there an obvious BORROW no two ways about it, infact if you took a picture of just an antlion and showed it too 100 people on the street I will garuntee a vast majority will mention SST if they aint heard of HL2.

r2d2 looks like a trashcan? nah! more a novelty dildo.

and on another note Ive been posting here since september and most of you have seen my negative views against valve but I can assure you Im just a sarcastic cynic, so I hope some of you get a kick out of my posts

I laugh at people who throws out "you fanboy" at every given opportunity. Why can't you just for once throw away your hate to valve or whatever might be bothering you and start using common sense? This wasn't directed at this thread particular, but it's obvious that some people have certain issues to deal with.

Ok, well. I'd like to point out once again, that no, they do not look same. Nor do they look EXTREMELY similar as mbrithoms put it. They look different. D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-T. Bah, I think there's a couple of people who needs to see the eye specialist. I don't go around saying cats and dogs look the same because they both have 4 legs and a tail do I?

of course they look 'different' but they ARE very similar creatures in both build, looks, attacks and shape, dont be so nieve

For crying out loud... NO!
build, no. They're far smaller then the trooper bugs....

looks, no. They're still missing their "mouth" and they seem to be sticking their butt in the air which is covered by their plating...

attacks. To a certain degree, yes. They're still missing their giant jaws to bite with, so they're only left with their legs to fight with. And as far as I can see, there's only one way to kill with your sharp legs, and that is to thrust...

shape, no... same as looks, these guys are also more round than the bugs.

just because they attack en masse

just because they have pointy legs

and just because they are designed by the same person

does not a rip off make.

seriously lets look at it logically here

what they have in common
-pointy legs
-attack in numbers
-bug-like

what they don't have in common
-overall body shape
-number of legs
-placement of legs
-coloration
-one can fly, the other cannot
-one has eyes
-one is considerably larger
-one has a head that looks like (as someone else said) a stapler remover
-one has radially spaced legs while the other has body segment based legs
-one digs massive tunnels, one digs smaller tunnels

the differences outweigh the similarities give it up or get your eyes checked

anyway the zerglings were not based on SST, they were based on the Tyranids from the game Warhammer 40k. they're only similarity was mass attack which was what the tyranids did

try doing some research before you keep saying it was all based on SST ok?

Jeez this thread has gone way too long

I think they look allot alike, first thing i thought when i saw a screen shot of them was Star Ship Troopers. Mabey that is where they got the idea, mabey not. Oh well either way they look like a pretty usefull tool. A game that reminds me even more of Star stroopers is Halo. Not the way the enemys look. But there are so many similarities IMHO. Dont be a punk like magnet an flaim me for my opinion though

I must admit that I initially thought of troopers when I saw the things. But like so many others I also said that they looked different. Though my fiancee thought that they were making a game of starship troopers when she saw it. No big deal. when I see a Plymouth Prowler, I think of the old Ford roadster, but they are two completely different vehicles.

They don't really look that much alike (I assume there'll be bit more to add/modify on the already seen model). It's just that they're both bug-like which is a cool idea. Added on to that, they are a cool enemy to fight (with and against).

Lol, troopers lock on for bug blastin' action!

Maybe now people can see that they look nothing the same besides some similarities in leg shape.

Of course they look alike, its quite obvious but that doesnt make me like either any less

Hmmmm... first thing I thought of when I saw the Antlions was the Trade Federation Mechno-Chair from Starwars Episode One.
