Everything is set. Half Life 2 Installed and updated. Graphic drivers updated. I launch HL2, it goes to the blurry main menu background, then closes without any error messages.

Why?

Specs:

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz

Memory:
6134MB RAM

Hard Drive:
500 GB

Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB (SLI Enabled)

Operating System:
Windows Vista™ Home Premium 64 bit

I can't figure it out.

One more question: I'm on a satellite connection here, I get 200MB a day. Before I uninstalled HL2 to troubleshoot this problem, I backed it up on Steam. Is there any way to restore this backup so that I don't need to download the update again if I don't need to? If so, how do I do it?

Thanks for your help guys. I appreciate it. :)

yea i have this problem to but in my case i can see the error messege. "Engine Error failed to lock vertex buffer in CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer" and then " the instruction no 0x241f94f7 refered to memory no 0x0e67f41c. memory cant be read. click ok to exit." what do i must do to play hl2???
