Hi,

I recently downloaded the Orange Box via Steam and have a problem with Half-Life 2. Every time I run into a new area, the game will load that area then after about a quarter of a second will immediately crash on me in the form of a screen freeze with a looping sound.

It should be noted that I -am- able to load the first area and then run around in it. It's merely when I try to switch areas that the game freezes. Using auto-save, I've been able to start in areas beyond the initial one on the train and from there as well, when the game has to load a new area, it will freeze with a looping sound.

I've already exhausted the support information on this page: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5034-EIPV-6426

My computer specs:

2 processors running - Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU T2450 @ 2.00GHz

1014MB of RAM

Microsoft Windows XP(SP3)

Video card - Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family (Intel(R) GMA 950) with the latest driver

Realtek HD Audio output

Does anybody have an idea that could help me? It would be much appreciated. If you need any more info, I'll try to respond promptly.

Thanks.

Have you tried Verifying GCF Cache Files?

I just tried it. It didn't solve the crash :(

You got the original version right??

I'm not sure? What I did was download the Orange Box off Steam. If Orange Box HL2 is different than just HL2, then I have Orange Box HL2, I guess.

Orange box is a set with 5 Valve games.
Half life 2 with the episodes.
Team Fortress 2
and portal.

I meant him. He didn't seem to accept that fact.

It worked! :)

Forcing DirectX9 worked. The game doesn't crash anymore when I load a new area :)

Thanks a lot :D
