Half Life 2 Cross Eye 3D

Okay for a second I thought you had to see a pitcure like in the books (e.g. "LOOK I SAW A PANDA ON THAT COMBINE'S ASS!')

I know you said it would'nt work if I physically overlapped them, but I tried it anyway. Does it end up looking somthing like this picture at all?

Whew, after too many minutes of trying, I can focus my view away from the finger and start looking at the pictures. But now I feel dizzzzzzyy... And Dumb Dude, no , at least I saw it a totally different way.

ohh

this is ****ing ace dude!!! i have been a fan of this 3d stuff 4 ages...... magic eye books with hidden images whint it a picture so when u cross ur eyes the picture stands out.......this is kinda similar...great work........ tho i should of put a warning below saying ...CAN CAUSE HEADACHES, EYE PAIN lol
sweeeet

when u cross ur eyes the two images overlap creating a kinda 3rd image in the middle of them!!!! if u can (takes some practising) focus on that image in the middle it will slowly become clear and ull notice that all the things start to stand out!!! amazing...... just wish i could print it out like that LOL

you retards, when you make them, do them so that most people can see them by putting them thinner and closer together, i get nauseous when i do it with your ones, please, for me

The bigger ones are much more interesting for the people that can do it easily. If you want thin ones... make your own. It's not hard.

1) Take screenshot.
2) Step to the side.
3) Take screenshot.
4) Put the two shots next to each other.
5) If it looks weird and you can't seem to get the 3D effect try changing their order (move the left picture to the right side).

I, for one, won't cater to the lowest common denominator and use thin pictures just because some people can't handle them. Should everything be ultra-light because some people don't work their larger muscle groups? No. Why then should we have to make pictures designed for people that never work their eye muscles?

I was a stereogram junkie in the 90's too. I used to make those images myself using cut and paste on a repeating patterned background image. The thing that makes images turn 3D when you combine the two images is the difference between the two. You know how when you strafe sideways (try this in the real world) while looking forward, the things closest to you pass by your field of view faster than the things farther away? This is how your eyes work and that's why you have two eyes. Your brain automatically perceives these displacement differences as distance.

Back when I bought my Asus GeForce ti4600, it came with LCD shutter glasses. Those were awesome. I'm not going to bother explaining those, but long story short, I could use them for hours (Descent 3 was awesome with them!) when anyone else would get headaches after a couple minutes. Probably from all that stereogram viewing all those years ago ;)

No, I guess I can't do it, but then again I haven't spent 30 mins twitching at my monitor like a moron.
Me neither- took me about 30 seconds for me to get it first time

its impossible to edit the pics into 3d. What makes it look 3d is your depth perseption with 2 eyes. it gets your right eye to look at left pic and right eye to look at left pic. It creates a 3d and depth to the picture. like its popping out of your monitor. Its an illusion.

yes, yes.. yes! it works! :D
it hurts though.

whatever, i is difficult to make it work ;]

These shots look REALLY good. They're so consistently high quality. Did you make these "by hand" or write some script or alias to do it for your?

For the people having trouble:

You may be too close to the monitor. The further away you are the less you need to cross your eyes, but the picture gets smaller too. Once you get it from a distance try moving in closer.

Remember that you are not crossing your eyes anymore than you would if you were looking at something up close.

About the quality of the pics:

I don't have the best stuff but I am able to play the game easily with all settings on high. I use photoshop to sharpen the pics a touch and on some of them I must brighten them up and add a little contrast. In all it takes about 3-4 minutes on each pic.

Thanks to luketabor for the hint about removing the weapon from the screen. That's been bothering me and I should have thought about that myself - DUH!

Here are some cross eye 3d I did using my Canon Powershot S230 digital camera. Not Half Life related.

Damn, you're good at making those! Did you use a tripod with the photos?

No tripod. You don't have to move much, just right or left about the width of the camera. If you're off a little the process is very forgiving. :D

The original photo res was 2048 x 1536. That helps a lot.

Thanks for the props!

Here are some more in Half-Life 2...

Don't hate! Note: The 2nd one may hurt..

Hey, do these things really work? Someone said there was a problem with it, but I don't know what he means. I might just be interrested in one of those E-D Wired Glasses.

Does anyone know if they work with hl2? Does it give a frame-rate drop? etc? etc? etc?

I did try 3D-glasses with HL2 but it just made all the heads and things, like trains, move out of the screen, so it didnt work for me :( It could be about the graphics card too, because its not exactly the latest version..
Otherwise those things can give you a pretty neat experince in gaming, as it makes things fly out of your screen all the way over your keyboard and stuff, exactly like youd watch 3D-pictures like the ones in this thread, but with more effect and without the eyestretching thing.
Give it a try, its fun

edit: oh and yes, it gives you a frame-reate drop.
