The following was posted earlier to day by Valve's Jess Cliffe:
A free demo of Half-Life 2 will be released later today. Featuring some of the amazing digital actors and physical gameplay that has made Half-Life 2 the leading contender for Game of the Year 2004, the demo takes players through some of the early levels of the game and later transports them to the area of the game known as Ravenholm. The demo will debut on ATI.com, and requires a Steam account to install. For more information about Half-Life 2, please visit www.half-life2.com.
The demo will be released today at 1pm PST. The easiest way to check the time over in Valve land is by clicking this link.[br]UPDATE: The demo has now been released and can be downloaded by clicking here.[br]To find out more information about the demo, click here.

What time will the demo be released in Canada?
And what happened to the last thread?

I doubt Cliffe appreciates having his posts copied to the front page and making it look like he works here :p

I re-did it on the news script anyway so it has the correct thingy for the news filters.

So he posted in General, you moved it to News forum. But then thought "It will look bad if someone who made the game post this" and replaced it with your own post? :p

EDIT: why do I make posts like this? :rolling:

Awesome now i dont have to bug my mom about letting me open half life 2 :) 17 MINUTES!

I imagine the demo content will be compatible with the full version too, so that you can just plonk down you money and start playing the rest of the game there and then. That would be neat.

This doesn't look like a playable demo. It sounds like a technology demo - similar to the FarCry one available at ATI.com now.

If you don't want threads moved here, then simply have your peons post the news instead of sit with thumbs up their arses and making excuses why they aren't doing anything.

I had to delete my other reply before posting it, the censor replaced far too many words :(

That's not Valve's style. And even if it was, the point you quoted still stands.

We'll see if it was a wasted weekend or not when those are hired ;)

::downloading:: weeee
I've already beaten the game
Why am i excited about this >_>

Oooo nice.

And if no one of them news guys works out, i'm always available.

Why on earth do you want to download the demo if you already have the game? :s

got to tell my non-hl2 owning friends

Lol im going to download it just for the hell of it :)

You'll probably need a new account without HL2 on it to play.

Is there anything different in the demo that's not in the full version?

If it's anything like the Half-Life 1 demo then there will be a few levels that have the same sort of theme as Half-Life 2 but don't really fit into the story and aren't in the normal game.

Lol, you're wasting your bandwidth to download something you've played already ;p

we're killing the transfer rate for ppl that havent actually played the game yet..
Its gone down at least 100kb/s for me since i started downloading

Uhh guys...
I started the download about 45 minutes ago then I went to do homework for a while. I got back and I saw it done (?). I wondered why because i thought it wouldnt be done for another 2 hours. I pressed the run button (I didnt save it when i started the download, i pressed to run when its done), and then it said the size doesnt fit into the size or something like that. Any help?
