Half-Life 2 Demo Coming Today

I finished downloading.. It installed Steam aswell. But... The thing is I already have Steam and HL2.. And I am not seeing any HL2 demo in my games list, or on the desktop...

What's up Valve? Can we not play the demo if we already have Steam and/or HL2?

84 kb/s. I already had a problem that a size doesnt fit into a size. Second time dling. Hope it works.... *sigh*

HAHAHA Dumb **** n00b.
You already have HL2. Wasting youre time you dickless poofter

People are reporting that ALL Source cache files are deleted if you uninstall the demo! If you've already got HL2 then DON'T uninstall the demo without first moving all the real cache files away.

This is good news for those that need some proof of HL2's ownage /fanboi

the demo installs nothing if you already have HL2.

It installs steam and it installs the game files. you already have both.

Typical of valve, to even fark up the demo installation and uninstallation..

YAY! this should hold me off till my friend comes back from vaction and gets me hl2.... (damn girl just had to go on vaction she couldn't just buy me the freakin thing before she left) *grumble* *grumble*

I fail to see how this is Valves fault.

You brought HL2, then downloaded and installed a DEMO OF A GAME YOU ALREADY HAVE.

This is YOUR FAULT, idiot.

Um.. yes, it is Valve's fault. Regardless of whether or not you have HL2 installed on your computer, you should be able to play the demo. I for one would like to see it if it has any new stuff in it that wasn't in HL2.

Ok... It a demo.... Of the full game... that you already own... and have already played! Why in god's name would VALVe add things to the demo that are not in the game?

As for it borking up people who already own HL2, well that kinda sucks. VALVe should have made it check if you already own HL2, and/or made it tell you that you cannot download the demo if you already own the full version. It should not be too hard to do this, and it would have saved some folks time and effort. Oh well. Glad I am at work, or I would have been one of you downloading it to see what it is too (I never said I was that smart either :p ).

A free demo of Half-Life 2 has been released. Featuring some of the amazing digital actors and physical gameplay that has made Half-Life 2 the leading contender for Game of the Year 2004, the demo takes players through some of the early levels of the game and later transports them to the area of the game known as Ravenholm. The demo is available at ATI.com and requires a Steam account to install.

why the hell would they say this? This makes absoutly no sense, i'm pretty sure this is a big mistake by valve.

How is it a mistake?

The demo is on the ati site and does require a steam account.

"Regardless of whether or not you have HL2 installed on your computer, you should be able to play the demo."

I want you to know that you, as a person, are providing much amusement to the world.

Though I found this crazy hack to get to play the demo: you basically just boot up HL2, type "sv_unlock_demo 1" in the console, and then you are ready to play!

They should have said "If you have Hl2 already installed do no install this demo"

I wonder if this is valves idea of the ATI levels they were supposed to give us?

Whats the deal with the bandwith going so crazy? Is it because of this demo?

how you think will take to download that demo whit my crapy 52k conection? :p

Sigh... you morons. Half-Life 1's demo was DIFFERENT ****ING LEVELS than the full game, so I assumed that maybe they did the same with HL2. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, I don't really give a ****, I just got home from work and I'm gonna go eat some ****ing dinner. :|

Well I don't care what anyone says, if you have the original game you should be able to play the demo for a number of reasons like new content, and tech support for those with the demo. or you might just want to see what levels are included. To me valve making the demo not work for those with the game is pretty ordinary.

Yay!! I can finally play some of Half-Life 2. :)

I have been waiting for this. I heard on another site that is was just some snippets from the single-player game. I hope I'm wrong, but wish I'm right. Who cares I get to play arguably the best game out there (statistically).

This brightened my day. :D

There is no new content (the demo just consists of chapters 1 and 6 from the full game), so owners of the full game can provide technical support without having the demo.

I just ran the demo from a second Steam account on my PC and it only needed to download about 2 minutes worth of content on my 256kbps connection, proving that all the Source engine and map files must just come from the full version that I already have installed for my main Steam account.

Yes Hl1s Demo was different, but they actually mentioned that you n00b. Thus why it was called Uplink.

Hl2s demo hasn't mentioned anything new becuase there isn't.

Is there material never shown before in the demo? or are they rip offs from the game?

It's a little glitchy. For example the garbage textures (the paper and empty food bags scattered on the floor) appear through the walls. It's as if the walls are somewhat transparent. Hopefully it's just a simple bug with the demo and not on my end. Strange.

I like the menu for the game. It's interesting to watch to combine, scanners and the citizens walk around in back. This game is fun, and I've only played 10 minutes. :)

Hmmmm...
I like it!
I have not got any time yet to actually play the game, waiting for the winter vacation to start on Thursday December 23.
This really is a good way of seeing wheather your computer is up for the experience of half-life 2.

A toast to valve for feeding thus hungry fans.
They have done well.

Chau!

yeah but if you use the impluse 101 cheat it'll cause the game to crash. You can use the give weapon_ (weapon name) cheat though. It was fun going around in intro level shooting the combine guards in the face any time they tried to hit you with that stun baton. " stun this! you mother father! " :borg:
