Half Life 2 Demo - Honest: Media Coverage and All

OMG, u gotta be shitting me, 3 min. before my shift is over and I get a call..... it's even worst because I hadn't gotten a call in over 2 hours!!!! AAARGGGGHH!!

so is it confirmed yet if this is a playable demo, a e3 video demo or a bink?

Hmm interesting, proppably the CS:S beta or so.. I dunno..

The post says that it was playing every 30 minutes, so it wasnt interactive.

E32004 HL² binks maby?, total of 25 minutes

Wonder what it is? I doubt it's a playable demo though. Prolly just a movie. He more than likely used the word "Demo" to get hits on his site. The basts.

i dont know it could be a demo and it couldn't

I think it was a playable one, because if you read it CLOSELY...

The Half-Life 2 demo that Vivendi's rep (Ryan) brought with him wowed everyone, including the NEWS14 people. Yep, we even had TV news coverage of this party! Haven't seen it myself, but I understand it was playing Saturday night, about every 30 minutes. I'll try to get the video and get it posted to our site.

it said it WOWed everyone....PLUS they had tv news coverage.

Hmmmm who knows we will all find the real news out soon...and knowning us lot...it wont be good news.

I don't get it, these people could have had an HL2 demo? as in have a wizz kids this is a taster to play?

I would prefer a demo, obviously... But I'd be pretty happy with just the E32K4 binks, as well. Unfortunately I have a feeling it is neither...

Well if they do the same thing Doom3 is doing, then they are gonna release a demo after the game out, which sucks, but lets hope not

Its a video. Why would a playable demo be playing every 30 minutes?

Yeah, me too.

:x

For all you illiterate people, a demo doesn't neccesairly mean it's playable.
Demo stands for Demonstration (To show off what you have).

This said, it's not a lie when they say it's a Half-Life 2 Demo. If they would have said "Playable Demo", then sure, hang them high, but for now just live with it.

IM betting it is a vid, and most likely its the one from e32k4 if its 30 minutes long, i think they are gonna release a demo after the game is released

Lol, a demo is also the E3 2004 video, that's a demo. Demo = demonstration, doesn't have to be a literal software demo.

At this years e3, did valve actually play the game? Or did they show a vid?

It was a video at e3. When you think about it, the only footage we have seen have been pre recorded videos. We havent seen valve playing the game live for us.....
Maybe they need several tries to make it look good.......
hope not

McFly, the computer played a playback of people previously playing. You usually do that to be sure that it does indeed look good (And everything you wanted to show, showed, and everything you didn't, didn't... (Not talking about errors but more or less the direction you wanted)).

Also, they are cutouts of several people playing composed to one.

Edit: McFly, you suck at checking your PM box man. I'm gonna answer you short after I get a mess.

i don't get why doom iii is gold, and not hl2... honestly.

:bonce:

becuase the people who made doom 3 concetrated on making the game and giving semi realistic dates.

instead of fannying around for the better part of last year.

Well doom 3 didn't have their source code stolen either

I'll wait for something official...but

On one hand, valve said no demo. But they did release a OEM version of Half-Life 1 the September before it came out. It wasn't a "demo" per se....

Another thing is that he claims it's a Vivendi Rep...so maybe valve didn't want a demo but the guys at Vivendi did....

Moreover, we could be talking about Doug Lombardi here...and there would be no better way to secure buyers...

Think about it...right now it is just speculation of which game (Doom III or Half-Life 2) is better...So people that want to(or can only afford) to buy just one of the games might buy Doom III just because it comes out first. But what if people Play like the first 20 % of Half-Life 2...and realize it is better than Doom III...they might just wait for it....

It's a demo disc with the Bink videos on it. Vivendi had them at E3 too, apparently.

Demo: Demonstration, it doesn't mean a playable version, Demo as a word covers both promotional videos and playabe shareware, but valve's already said no demo... bah!

People who buy Doom 3 will eventually buy Half-Life 2 and I'm pretty sure VALVe knows this.

I'd say your probably right about that. Both id and Valve have always maintained that they're not that worried about competition with eachother.

Ya ya ya. come on people, do you seriously belive that Valve doesn't care about competition. Get real. Of course they want HL2 to sell more and be better than Doom 3 and that's maybe the reason why they are taking so long. I'm not saying the competition is all overpowering, I still believe they put the community ahead, but it's there and it's palpable.

That's because they each have their own huge fan base and both games will be great :bounce:
