Half-Life 2 Demo...

i remember way back when you could go online and download a playable version of a game to see if you liked it. i still live to this idea simply because i've bought games that "looked" cool *cough* blank and white *cough* and only ended up really not likeing them all that much. why didn't Valve release a demo before the Sept 30 date? yeah the game is highly antisipated and "cool looking" but i'm just not impressed unless i've been able to play atleast a demo version.


EDIT: i like how this thread gets tons of views simply because they think i'm giving info on a leaked demo or something. this is sad.

no one said an actualy map of the game, just something that you can play with, us the weapons, just get the overall feel of the game. maybe throw some zombies for you to kill.

Guess Valve isnt much into releasing Demo versions. Come to think of it i dont think they released any kind of Demo for HL1 as well. So... just do something else lol. Play Max Payne 2 or something i dont know hehe

i cant really say anything. i got a burned copy of HL1 from a friend. after playing it a while i went to the local hastings and bought it along with Unreal Tournament. total cost about $32
i live in a quake community so other games are cheap

i just want something playable, like the intro to the E3 demo where they go through and look and the water and stained glass. looking at its one thing. interacting with it is another.

I would like a demo. I don't care about spoiling any experience as long as the demo doesn't contain any major spoilers. I'd prefer SP to MP though, I'm not bothered that much with MP.

I play the Call of Duty demo,so much, that ive memorized it exactly, played it to death, and its still fun. I belive this would be the case for HL2 as well, only it would 10 times as good plus on crack.

My thoughts exactly on the HL2 demo. When I first saw CoD, I was thinking big deal, another WWII fps on an aging Q3 engine. But when I played the demo, it turned out to be one of the most immersive and intense experiences I've had playing pc games in a long time.

A HL2 demo would be a very wise decision right about now, since it would make up for the delay, and it would also help discourage people from downloading the HL2 beta, since most ppl who want the beta would rather go for an official demo which would be virtually bug free, and it wouldn't contain hidden viruses like some warez does. And it doesn't have to give away anything about HL2, just like the uplink demo gave away nothing about HL1.

this is the email i sent to Gabe about this subject, and maybe if enough people were to email him something similar we might actually get one.

why is it you don't release a playable demo? i admit i'm a bit old fashioned. i download a demo, play it, and if i like it i buy it. Single Player/ Multi Player, it doesn't really matter just something the fans, your consumers, will be able to interact with. many games in the past took off even better when they released a demo. take Unreal Tournament for example, no one had even heard of Unreal untill the UT demo was released. then it became more popular than the Quake trilogy. i'm not asking for anything super fantastic, something like one level or two where i can interact with some of the key inviorment materials. take the E3 demo for instance. the one begging level where you shot at the wood boards, threw the body into the water and such would be great to mess with. i'm not asking for a 300Mb download just something to play with since it will be even longer till the game is released. i appreciate anything you can do in this matter and will be eagrly waiting your reply.

That level is glitchy as hell. If you throw a grenade by the barrels and metal sheets in the left hand corner of the room, the game crashes, and the shadows are not correct if you look at the ceiling. But it would be entertaining to have a cleaned up version of that level.
