Half Life 2 Demo

nope (w00t i just found out it went gold *does stupid dance*)

After Half-Life 2's release most likely.

Making a demo of a game is actually a lot bigger undertaking than most people imagine it is. So for already highly anticipated games, there is no benefit in terms of publicity by releasing a demo before the game is out - all it means is that the actual game will come out later. And it could even hurt the game sales - how many people would have bought Doom 3 if they'd been able to play the demo first?

if there was a demo before 16th nov. there is NO possable way i would play it! i mean talk about spoiling the game days before release. if the demo was maybe like half life demo where it is a whole new level.

or if the demo was released months ago then i would of played it to death lol

Nothing good could come out of a demo. Look at Invisible War, people couldn't wait for that game ... until the demo. I personally enjoyed IW, but a lot of people didn't even buy it because of the demo. I'm sure HL2 will be a great game, but they really don't have anything to gain by releasing a pre-release demo.

If there was a demo before the actual game came out, I'm sure SO many people would play the one level they'd give you over and over and over and over...

(fires up a couple of binks, moves mouse and presses W/S/A/D whilst pretends he's in the game)

hehe nice :smoking:

i don't think they need a demo with all the videos out there. not to mention that everybody and they grandma will buy this game regardless for the mods (if anything).

A demo would pursuade those doubters into buying - I have many friends who only have me to go re: the quality of this game... Many people only see the pretty graphics and know nothing of the (supposedly) fantastic gameplay...

A demo would set this in stone, and also show ppl how fast I'd run - you shouldn't have to pay for the package just to run the CS:S VST!

The main reason I want a demo is so I can see how well it runs on my computer before buying it. I'm pretty sure they are releasing a demo after they release the game, but definitely not before.

I doubt people will bother with a demo, as this has been coming for sooo long, people will just snap it up as soon as it hits the shelves.

I know I will.

Even though i have ordered the game from steam I am hoping there will be a demo soon, as i imagine it weill be a custom made thing like half-life:uplink was. As far as i know valve are the only people to have made a demo that way and it makes sense when you think about it there is no individual level from half-life that gives an overall impression of what the game is like. Half life two will be the same or even more so makes it worth playing the demo even if you already have the full game.

hl2 dont need no stinkin demo. The game is sooo good me and everyone i kno is buying it.

After the game ships is likely - the demo is a huge task in itself - Half Life:Uplink was entirely seperated from the main Half Life story yet feature many integral parts - was an excellent mini half life....

Blizzard did it with the Starcraft demo before the HL demo was out.

Be honest with yourself.

After all this, do you really need a demo?

they should just make the demo the train station, lmao!!

That's not a bad thing, is it? :D

But yeah, I can imagine. People picked apart the Binks frame by frame. "Look, his head is bobbing!" "Look! There's someone hiding in the trash can!"

if heared that there going to be a demo
but most likely when hl 2 is released.

I wish they would just make a demo where you are in a giant room with lots of objects to manipulate using your gravity gun. That would be enough for me.

Aren't you just a clever guy? I wish I could find humor in this...but alas, it wasn't funny :(.

There is a demo for HL2. All the gaming magazines played it for their review. The actual game is 45-50 hours in length and will include HL2 Deathmatch and the Hydra.

/me wishes

if they release anything, itll be a teaser run, like you get to kill a few things and thats it. if they release an actual demo, like you get to play a "level" of the game, then that'll probably happen later or someone will make it. they wouldn't want to make a demo to ruin the surprise of the game, you know?

Good point there, but you can test it on CS: Source. I hate demo`s

Hopefully a demo after release what has its own little story like the HL uplink demo, but doubt thats gonna happen again.

a big room with a crossbow and a bunch of zombies, and maybe some props to fool around with the physics...and water too.

yep, that would tide me over for 28 days.

you dont need a demo to decide weather or not to buy this game. Look at doom3 people waited forever for a demo lol.
