I've been a bit worried because I've been dreaming of Half Life 2 a bit too often. Maybe it's because the last thing I do before I go to sleep is look on this forum.

I've dreamt about it at least 3 times:

* Finding a Magazine with a Half Life 2 review in it. I didn't get to read the review because the magazine was falling apart. Dammit.

* Half Life 2 training mission: I was playing scenes very simliar to the E3 videos but it was in some sort of training area. Also, Barney was female (no idea why).

* Half Life 2 Demo. This was set in some dessert, I think. With Sandy Ruins. I had to go underground at one point, I think. The enemies were Human Grunts from Half Life 1. And at one point there was a Tenticle. The G-man was also there, at one point.

(Posted in Off Topic, because General Discussion had gone a bit downhill at the moment. When people post about the AI in the videos nobody seems to remember that it's been talked about to death, and apparently "What games are you playing now" is not off topic. Gah, I'm ranting.)

Youve dreamt about it probly 20x more then that, you just cant remember. And what is there to worry about?

Well, it would be nice to dream about something else. Sometime than doesn't make me seem like a Half Life 2 Obsessed Nut.

i dreamed just last night that gordon freeman ****ed my sister.

Ive had about two Hl2 related dreams that i remember. One was where several people from the forum went to some mod convention in Germany. That was pretty cool

The other was where ran Hl2 and ended up int he game, but when i was fighting some strider's, i had people out of WWII helping me. Now that was a cool dream, i mean, it was so vivid i could practically smell things around me.

lol j/k

I dreamt once that I went to the store on sept. 30th and I couldn't find a single copy of HL2 so I ax a guy and he tells "they're all gone, that 12 year old nerd took the last one... the last one... the last one..." And rage starts building up inside of me, I pick up a copy of Doom III (don't ask me how or why and shit...) and bash the living shit out of the kid then I leave... without taking HL2... I know, I was semi-drunk before going to bed :)

No joke I had a dream that I had HL2. It felt so real I swear to god I woke up the next morning and was going into a panic because I couldn't find my HL2 cd, I went so far as to ask one of my friends if he took it...wow...did I feel like an asshole.

I had some dream about hl2 where I was on a catwalk with fire and lava or some shit at the bottom, and a combine soldier hit me but I had noclip and I nocliped thru the wall and got into a parking lot and woke up...

It is far from uncommon for me to dream of games, however this has nothing to do with obsession in my case.

I'm somewhat of a dream specialist infact. During my attempts at gaining an ever disciplined mind, i became aware of the true nature of dreams while conducting dream recall exercises. Dreams can be controlled in the most detailed ways, and when dreamt by a clear and disciplined mind, they can seem as real as the waking world, if not more real. Dreams seem illogical and random to the dreamer simply because the dreamer is not fully conscious while they are dreamt. But to be awake in a dream, or fully conscious during a dream in other words, is to take control of the experience.

The dream world consists of what i label as Mind Matter. This mind matter is extremely sensitive to thought and will, and takes on whatever form which is projected by the dreamer. In this way, your subconscious forms the dream world and plays out whatever scenario it is occupied with. The forms this mind matter takes on is indistinguishable from reality, producing everything from accurate appearance to texture, smell, and weight. To be conscious while dreaming is to be in command of the dream world, to instruct the mind matter, and to build a world around whatever scenario you choose. There is absolutely no end to the amount of detail this dream world can consist of. The only limit is that of your imagination and your level of consciousness.

With that being explained, i have dreamt of hl2 occasionally. Indeed, i have even played it in my mind. Imagine for a moment, a game with unlimited amount of detail. No limit to the polycount, texture resolution, physics simulation, lighting, a game that is not only photo real, but absolutely indistinguishable from reality. Such a world can be created by the conscious dreamer. In this world, any scenario can be experienced. A gamers Nirvana. Your own personal virtual reality. Indeed, i have played many hl2 games in such a world. On one such occasion, i commanded a legion of soldiers and fought off 1,000 combine, obliterating their presence from my charge, City 17. Quite fun. Since time is a byproduct of the physical world, it only exists in the dream world as you intend it to exist. This means that these experiences may last as long as you like, while in the physical world very little time passes.

If it is your wish, we can start a study group here where I(and others?) can instruct on how to achieve this state of conscious dreaming.

The mind is as the ocean, vast beyond measure, and one may learn to swim as deeply into it as they dare.

Live long and prosper.

What you're talking about is commonly referred to as "lucid dreaming". It's not really that difficult to achieve, either. You only need to realize that you're dreaming, and you can pretty much control things from that moment on.

There's a lot of information on the internet (some legitimate, some not) about lucid dreaming, meditation, etc, so if anyone's interested, look it up.

I intentionally did not use the words lucid dreaming simply because there are many states, or levels of consciousness with lucid dreaming. Some people consider a lucid dream to be a vivid or abormally detailed dream, while others consider it to be a lifelike dream that is very vivid but the dreamer has no control. I did not use the term lucid dream to be as clear as possible, and to limit the chance of misunderstanding me.

With that said, it seems rather demeaning to call what i do lucid dreaming. I have had lucid dreams occasionally all my life, but through disciplined practice and consciousness raising techniques i have achieved an amount of consciousness and control that i have never before achieved in a lucid dream, the same goes for others i have talked to that have lucid dreams on a regular basis.

Lucid dreaming is little more than just that, and abnormally lucid dream. In such a dream dreamers rarely have anywhere near the amount of control i have learned to gain, going by my own lucid dreams and discussions with other lucid dreamers i stay in contact with.

Live long and prosper.
