Half-Life 2: Episode One Gold!

The thing is, I believe they're already halfway through making Episode 2, and I reckon (hope?) the turnover between episodes will be a lot shorter (isn't the next one due in autumn or something?).

are or are not ?

HopeI don' get flamed after this post.... ;)

But eh well I love hl2 have downloaded lots of sp mods and are still playing them. But is it just me but episode one is something that does not excite me very much.

Have not pre-loaded this will concider this if the price is right in a shop, maybe.

The shop price will be slightly more than the Steam price.

Honestly don't know if I'm buying this, will they take debit cards yet? Solo in my case?
They take Visa Electron under the guise of Visa, without apparently advertising that they do (i've got Darwinia, Sin Episodes 1 and HL2 Episode 1 through Steam by using that card). Not sure about whether Solo passes as Switch or not. It will soon tell you.

Edit: also, avatar hoorah.

Again, misuse of the word trailer. It was only supposed to highlight Alyx, and guess why that is? Because it's a teaser.
Did you ever see the X-Men 2 teaser? Where it showed 0 footage from the film? But it served it's purpose in the fact that it was a teaser.

I must have missed it or forgot. :/

The teaser was fine espeshally the 1st part notice how the energy is ripping through everything....wait it might be a teleport sucking everything in. WAIT....its a worm hole sucking everything in. lol. Think i got it...

I don't think it's a worhhole or a teleporter :p. It's simply part of the Citadels meltdown process - remember, the Citadel is a machine in itself. With the reactor in meltdown and the Combine effectively speeding up the process it's generators and things such as will be going haywire.

Yeah, because like we all know they were also building the Source engine in that time. I think HL2 was really only developed for four years, and totally started a fresh at one point, and with the code leaking incident, it shouldn't have been six years.

Eighteen months for, was it 6 hours of gameplay they said? Well, I personally don't think that's good enough.

I think most people if they're honest with themselves were saddened that these episodes have taking so long, with the whole idea that it would speed up development, and distribution on the Steam platform.
I feel I should mention something ... those 18 months haven't been a barren wasteland of releases for VALVe.

You've had
  • Lost Coast
  • Day of Defeat: Source (and numerous updates)
  • HL Deathmatch: Source
  • Loads of CS:S updates
  • HDR and Colour Correction tech added
  • And all the bug fixes, etc, etc...
So don't complain that VALVe have spent 18 months to make Episode 1. Not to mention that development of it was split between E1 and E2.

:)

Others:
HOI! Where's your gold avatars!

Good points Kirkburn, I should be grateful to Valve because I have thoroughly enjoyed DoDS and Lost Coast! :)

new video = poop

Anyway its to make people less excited so the release will be even greater

(teaser 2 - garry's mod of jet propelled breen)

i refuse to change my avvie to gold because ill never change it back if i do, i changed it to christmas avatar back in dec 2004 and didnt change it back to normal for over six months

Add me to the list of people who would jump off the bridge if we had to wait for six years.

I'd be happy forgetting about any new Half Life stuff for now. I'm not as into games as much as I used to be so I'd be happy to switch to a few different games while waiting years for a HL3. I'm kinda bored of HL2 and it's engine. And I don't think the mods to follow would revive my interest. I played too much HL2, CSS and HL2DM to not appreciate them any more. I don't get to play online much now though, so when I do it's a good laugh occasionally.

No, it doesn't. It takes Visa Electron though.

For the last time, there will never be a HL:3, 4 eps and hl is sadly over. :(

It's not so sad. I think they've gotten plenty out of the Half-Life universe.

Look at the bright side, this means new games from Valve. New ideas. It's exciting!

Once again, HL2.net is behind the 8-ball, and has yet to make a post about the second trailer, which, by the way, is MUCH better than this crappy trailer.

Actually, we don't know where it's going after the 4 episodes. Valve are wrapping the Half-life 2 story arc up in 3 episodes, then 4 takes it somewhere different. Valve have a great deal of story left to tell - more than they have games to do so. Like Gabe said, we'll all probably want a HL3 eventually.

Episode 4? What is this 4th episode you speak of?

It's being developed by another developer. And no, it isn't Turtle Rock.

Interesting...side story perhaps? Linkage?

... fans of HL2 are STILL waiting to be informed.... Is there actually a decent HL2 wesbite out there? I only know of PHL and HL2.net, and they're (obviously) both garbage.

Tell you what - why not go and start your own? You're obviously an expert.

im stoked! :D

You know what I really hate? When people lambast us for not posting news but don't bother to actually use our news reporting feature.

If you're so on-the-ball why don't you do us a favour and send the news to [email protected] ? You have no right to complain unless you've sent it and we've ignored it. Some of us are knee-deep in exams right now and don't actually have time to go trawling over half the interweb.

Well, if you had the brains there are 9 pages listed as Affiliates on HL2.net's main page and also, there's a very well-kept secret on the internet. It's known as Google or and also a little know site called Wikipedia.

Just say the word; and you'll be gone. :)

Yay. I haven't been around for years :S Has there been any info on special editions of EP1 or anything? I bought HL2:GOLD from Steam & would love to have an EP1:GOLD too :( And what about CE/SE's in real shops?

Edit: Maybe it's time to update the EP1 date in the info section? :)

Can't wait for this game to come out next week. It's gonna be a helluva ride me thinks.
