Half-Life 2 First Impressions!

Hey guys!
I won't be able to get Half-Life 2 until after my exams, and I thought that a thread that just explained everyones initial impressions of the game would come in handy for people like me who are unable to get Half-Life 2 at the moment :)

NO DoD :( and NO HL2DM. ****ing Valve seems to only care about the CS fags.
 
DoD is coming soon. be patient. and there probably will be a HL2DM, just not yet.
 
Umm..Edge, have you been living under a rock?
DoD is nowhere near completion, and we don't even know if HL2DM exists. If it does, it may be a few weeks or even months before we see anything.
 
So far, I'm only at the train station but I'm still awestruck. I can't believe how astonishingly gorgeous this game is. Just the characters you meet at the station are so frighteningly life like.

I can't believe it's real. This is so ****ing awesome. I can already feel the 6 years were more than worth this.
 
I finished the game! yeah! It was hard around the middle but i've done it now...

Yes im going crazy. ****ing EB australia are ****ing assholes who dont want to sell the game untill tomorrow, They have it just sitting there in the back, i even offered to pay $20 to get my pre-order now, they said coz u need online activation I have to wait till tomorrow, This was 30mins b4 they released!!!

Ok... I dont think many people who are playing will be talking here for abit.

Same here, can't buy until tomorrow (today actually), but I'm going to get some sleep first and buy it around 9:00am.
 
well i'm getting my copy tomorrow after school, will play for a while and then go to work, and after that, I will get a full day of playtime on Friday
 
Well thank you for coming out of the game to tell us this :) I'm sure most people would still be attracted to the game (Can you blame them?)

I know how you feel Admin! I've got a mate who wanted to get it today but they delayed it til 9:00 AM tomorrow. I'm in Perth too and I think its really stupid because if its unlocked at 4:00, then it should be released...
 
Its 12:30 am right now and i just got back from playing the intro into the station area.Im gonna save it for tommorow morning!So far though,game is amazing,I too cant believe I have it,but hot damn,well worth the wait.
 
Quit talking about WHEN you get it, those who GOT it should talk a litte. I have a day at work and no chance to play (although being a games journalist should do the trick but it doesn't :()

I was playing messing around with the use key and i actualy took the phone off the public telephone and chucked it at some dude and he was like "Hey!Watch it"..heh
Off too sleep now guys.Gonna start fresh and blast this game up in 7 hours.
 
Of course all the people who can't play it will complain!
The phone thing seems really cool. Fantasmic physics!
 
This sucks soo much. I've been jumping between this forum and the swedish Half-Life2.se, enjoying the countdown with everybody, modding around at the swedish forum, made a quick newspost as the game was unlocked - and now e-body is gone. They've all left, each with their "Happy Playing" wishes and left poor me here all alone (almost).

I'm home all day, I have nothing but free time on my hands and I won't get my copy of the game for another nine hours. I wanna play NOW !! Feels a little comforting though, that I'm not the only one who has to wait a little longer. I still can't believe how big this is, like a huge new-year celebration or something... Can't wait for the "first impressions" feedbacks to start rolling in.

shit, gotta go to sleep, school tomorrow and then driving like a madman to Gamestop and picking up my copy, yey!!!

Basically, I have decided that I have never seen anything this immersive in my entire life. This game is...well...this is art.

I noticed such immensly powerful details in this game. I'm sure you all will feel the same way.

When you enter the apartment complex that the Combine Overwatch is slowly clearing out and you enter one of the apartments, there is a couple on the couch. A man consoling his worried wife. As I stood by, he was talking but he gave me this glare. And it was honestly one of the most convincing emotions I have ever seen. And this was from software.

Not only that but the first time you enter the roof top, and you gaze at the city scape as the air units are flying by...I am not kidding you all, I kind of got choked up.

THank you Valve. You have done your job and you have done it so immensly well.

A new dawn of entertainment has landed friends. This game is possibly the greatest programming feat ever achieved.
 
Is there a Training Course?Like in Half-Life?

Bravo, VALVe, with Half-Life 2 you start NEW GAMING ERA.
Congratulations, you're best.
 
Wow! By the sounds of things is this one of the greatest games ever :) It's good to see that it's not all graphics and special effects, and that there is a deep, immersive storyline to it (Which we all knew anyway :))
 
I want it badly. It sounds like my perfect type of game.
****, it sounds like everyones type of game. Well, except for my best friend (a girl) who thought the Ravenholm bink was incredibly disgusting.

Wow, the interactivity is just so impressive. I had to wait a couple minutes to let the fact that I was actually playing Half-Life 2 sink in. I can't ****ing believe it. This is one of the best feelings in the world.

jeez... its 4am edt now, I'm one hour into HL2, and I have to get some sleep before working tomorrow... as much as I'd like to play hooky I can't. but from the hour I've spent so far.... I'm awestruck. the detail, the characters, the emotions, the intimidation of the combine grunts... everything is just so real and visceral...

good job valve, I'll play more tomorrow but I already know I'm going to love every minute of this game.


and omg, A PET HEADCRAB??? that is just too funny!
 
Packed to the brim with innovative action. I keep getting scared for my life but it's only a game.
 
Oh how I HATE school. I want to play right now, but I have a physics test first thing tomorrow morning. It is addicting already!
 
i have work in a few hours....got to go to sleep but so far
i have a gun but i havent fired a single shot...and this is byfar the best game i have ever seen...i smokes far cry and eats doom3 as a snack nothing we as gamers have ever seen could perpair you for half life 2....thank you valve
 
Half life 1 was the new benchmark then... HL2 is the new benchmark now
 
Unlocking HL2 game files... Damn this is taking long! Can't wait to play. Just got my copy from the mail and have a hour and a half off from school. C'MON GO FASTER
 
The game is amazing. The feel of the pistol, which is the only weapon I have touched so far besides the crowbar, is perfect. The sound, perfect. The visuals are totaly amazing. At some points I couldn't even beleive my eyes. The character models and facial animation are all fantastic. Although the Steam version didn't launch at first for me, I thankfuly knew how to fix it since the same thing happened with CS:S. Well it's time for me to get 3 hours of sleep before school only to agonize about being away from my HL2 for a few hours. Oh and nothing has been spoiled for me yet by reviews (I haven't read the gamespot review) except for what is in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Best game. Ever. Ever ever ever. This is coming from Valve's biggest cynic. I just played 1.5 hours straight and I F*CKING LOVE IT! Words cannot describe how cool this game is. Play it. NOW! AMAZING!! I'm not usually one to gush and type in all caps but I cannot find the words to describe this game. Get it now. Play it now. It is well worth the wait. Valve, from your biggest doubter, thank you from the bottom of my icey cold heart. I am in love with this game.

The game probably fell on my doormat, right about.... now.
