hey ive been trying to play dystopia, cs:s and half-life 2 but it keeps locking up and freezing for short amounts of time and i know its the game itself or is it just my comp this has never happened before what should i do?

my computer specs dont matter in this case the games ran smootlhly until a couple days ago when it stop made the same sound over and over agian and then startted moving again and then it stopped and made more sounds.

that would only happen if you had so much running at the same time in the background. try closing an unneccesary programs

i dont think its a port issue i dont get that it just like freezes in and out of the game.

Should still check if all your ports are correct, though.

Are there any programs that require internet that might suck up your bandwidth active?

The way you did mention problem did made your Spec matter in this case. However, if you did figured out that far, that your system Spec didn't matter, I think you can figure the rest as well. Undo whatever you did b4 your system started with hiccups.

Good Luck.

See, that wasn't so hard now was it? And now I know exactly what you need which is; You need more memory.

The time games were running smoothly (Brand new PC) until the day they started stuttering, you probably installed few (If not a lot) of programs, some of which may need to boot with windows, and run in the backgrounds, they need memory space. Nowadays 1GB of memory is barely enough. Throw one more 512MB module in there, and see what happens. Don't mix rams, use the same kind of ram you use now (PC2700 to PC2700 Etcetera) Also do disk defrag, if you haven't done so.
I still don't know your virtual size and whether you have Video and sound cards , which will add more stress on to your CPU and memory if you don't.

In the future, put your specs in your Sig area like me, so people won't ask you silly questions like "What's your spec".

Good Luck.

shiet.. well i think i have a virus or somthin now :S im going to take my comp to the store i bought it and see if they can fix it im not that good with computers. My warrty is about to expire too:p

Warranties mostly don't cover software related issues (It has to be hardware) that's why XP has the system recovery service, and most PC manufacturers supply recovery CD bundled in their products. and "I think I got a virus" won't give you free ticket for first class service. keeping your PC away as far as possible from viruses is your sole responsibility. You need to have a friend who knows about computers to check yours out.

Good Luck.
