Half-Life 2 in Computer Graphics World Magazine

There's a couple things to be mentioned in this month's Computer Graphics World. The first I noticed was an advertisement showing a rather old screenshot of the strider walking through debris chasing little people. The caption reads:

"The mod tools in the XSI EXP for Half-Life 2 are the exact same advanced high-quality tools that we use here at Valve meaning anybody can get into the game and realize their own creative vision within the intuitive SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment.

"It is awesome that this is free software.

"Be among the first to get an exclusive first look at the free SOFTIMAGE|XSI for Half-Life 2 at GDC in San Jose, booth 1528, March 24-26. More info at softimage.com/HL2"

It doesn't have much new info, but it does have what appears to be a single new screenshot. It's not in-game though, and only shows the Alyx model being prepped for speech/animation with the internal proprietary Faceposer lipsinc software. There is one silly/strange quote about the leak also:

"While forcing Valve to delay the game's initial October 2003 release date until mid-March, the theft and continued assault bu hackers are telltale signs that fans are busrting with anticipation for the sequel..." They mention "its release this month" in another part of the article as well. BUT GUYS take this with a SHOE-FULL OF SALT! I think perhaps they have mixed up the HL2 release with the SDK release, which is coming much sooner.

First of all the inital date was September 2003 (yeah sure, Sept 30th, one day away from October, but still...) and mid-march is earlier than even the last date that was "set back". Remember, Vivendi released a publishing schedule of HL2 being in April 2004, then they revised it to TBC 2004. Therefore it seems like what they're saying is false / refers to the SDK.

I agree... I don't think the author of this article had any real sit-down-and-talk-time with anyone at Valve... seems like he made a few phone calls, watched the vids, and then collated everything into one article. Also, there's an info box giving information on the companies mentioned in the article... including XSI, Havoc, Adobe, and... id software? Someone screwed up there and didn't give the Valve website at all.

Personally, I won't believe a release date until I hear it from someone at Valve... and even then I won't hold my breath.

Man i can't wait to get my hands on the SDK, make a mod or two.
And on a side note, i dont like Vivendi, just a wierd vibe.

Wow, that article doesn't really make sense.

it was probably talkin about the SDK. its Apr now and still no HL2 :/ its nearly half a year since it was goin to be comin out :(
