When I first heard that Valve was working on Half-Life 2 I thought: Wow, cool. I need to buy this game.

Then the bad news:

Half-Life 2 is delayed.

I said to my self: Thats ok, everything gets delayed.

Now, almost one year later I still see the same graphics, and no special improvements in todays binks. And now they are probably going to delay it 6 more months?

Are we paying for a OLD game?

Does it truly matter if it has the greatest graphics if the game itself kicks ass? It doesn't need to look like Quake 4 or UE3 if there's a good game under the hood, unless you're partial to Doom 3, and then gameplay isn;t something you're interested in, just pretty, shiny stuff

No. You havent paid for anything old or new. If you bought an ATI card with a free voucher you bought an ATI card with a free voucher.

If you bought a new computer in anticipation for the game you bought a new computer.

Since the game has not been released you have not bought and or paid for anything with regards to a game.

I'm glad you can grasp the date and time system. It doesnt matter how old HL2 is. It doesnt matter how old the graphics are. Its the story that will make this game the best ever.

And yes, the graphics has changed a lot during this year. Just watch the BINKs.

Take a look at Half-Life. That was delayed a year as well and look at all the awards that won. Even then the graphics were a little out dated. Quit the whining and buy the game, when it comes out, if you want and don't if you don't.

I would play the "but I bought a new computer for HL2" card, but honestly...I don't think playing Doom 3/Far Cry plus many other games would have been as enjoyable on my Compaq Athlon 950. I needed a new one anyways.

They started making the game six years ago, it won't be outdated in one year

Halo 2 is an old game and getting older as we speak
Unreal 3 is an old game and getting older as we speak
New Zelda is an old game and getting older as we speak
GTA: San Andreas is an old game and getting older as we speak
Resident Evil 4 is an old game and getting older as we speak
S.T.A.L.K.E.R is an old game and getting older as we speak
Battlefield 2 is an old game and getting older as we speak

Halo 2 and GTA san andreas graphics are outdated and no way that halflife 2 is.

But I think the graphics in Halo 2 are pretty impressive considering it's on a hardware that is four years old.

I'm getting really tired of your posts. If you want to see yourself type that badly, buy Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing.

ffs stop your bitching, you shouldn't even be buying HL2 for it's graphics.. almost all of your threads have been dedicated to pointing out some meaningless and noobish factor..

I paid for HL1 two years ago when it was already years after its release and I still had more fun with it than most other games I had purchased at the time that were new.

So really I don't care even if it is old. The only thing that might be getting old in the game is the graphics, and fact is HL2's graphics will still be above average 6 months from now so it really doesn't matter.

Im sorry but Halo 2's graphics are extremely good and in no way outdated. I love half life 2 graphics as much as the next person but if you think halo 2's graphics are outdated then you should think half-life's graphics are old(which they arent).

You aren't paying for an old game, you are paying for a game that's been in development for six years. Even if it were pong graphically, it would still be a new game if it had never been released before.

Graphics aren't EVERYTHING. HL1s weren't the best graphics out. It was the best game, tho,

You're older than you've ever been. And now you're even older. And now you're even older. And now you're even older. And now you're older still. Time.... is marching on. And time.....is still marching on.

Except for those of us who pre-ordered HL2.

I disagree with you.

First of all, all the games you ve mentioned in your list are still in development as we speak. As we speak, the teams are adding and improving new technologies to their games, whereas HL2 has stoped long time ago from improvning.

The thread starter got a solid point, but his point will not prevent us from purchasing HL2.

I still break out old text based Infocom games like Zork and Deadline now and then and have a ball. Those games are 20+ years old. I love them.

I bought Doom3....now I know a lot like it, but I did not. It's surely one of the most advanced engines made to date. But, to me, it wasn't fun to actually play and I got bored with it quickly.

If you weigh the value of a game on graphics or technology than pretty much every game will suck given a few months time I'm afraid (no matter when it's released). It's what's underneath which will let a game last and continue to be great over time.

If the game is fun, than it can never be "outdated."

Do you still play HL or CS? Those games are over 5 years old.

HL was delay one year so it was already OLD when it was brand new. To this day it still remains one of the most popular PC games of all time.

What's the problem again?

I think this was a sarcastic aproach to the idiot that started this thread...

Nope you havn't paid for it yet, the store hasn't taken any money from you yet, you can cancel it anytime you want. They will only take the money from you once the game is released.

So no you havn't paid for it yet even if you pre-ordered.

yes, the technology that they used to develop Hl2 is "dated" because they started developing this game..like 5or more years ago. If your point is indeed to have weight, then you need to mention that everygame is also old.Because when they come up with the concept, 3months later when theyre in production, the technology is out of date. Thats the way the world of computers is like, one minute your uber 1ghz Athlon was teh uber!! then like 3months later..it was on to 1.2...then 1.4, then were at 3ghz... :sniper:.

TBh, i finished hl1 for the first time around 1 and a half years ago, and now everyonce in a while play it through again, but i dont think the graphics are that bad, yes, not up to the standard of the Doom3's and farcrys of this world, but still, if you remeber back to what they were like then....still good.

And please someone let me know if they know of a game that really honestly does look like 20% better....??? i mean dear lord...doom3 is close, but everything looks so shiney... Farcry, i suppose is the closest along with Punisher..but their physics are all mullered!

I personally think the creator of this thread should consider suicide.

Half-Life's graphics are old...very old.

Could you tell me the reason wy HL2's graphics are old?!

As far as I know HL2 - or Source - are so well-programmed and uses the newest Dx9 technology and what ever it includes. Beside I don't think it that great that FarCry and DOOM 3 are filled to the edge with these extreme PS effects - whats the deal? Almost no one can run it smooth AND enjoy the nice graphics...

I think gf are relative.
I look at the binks and im not as amazaed as i was the first time but i should them to a friend who has been playing the latest D3 far cry and he was amazed at them.
Anyway 5 or 6 hours into a game i forget about graphics and focus on story and what i can actually do in a game.
Hell my fav game is chess and that hasnt evolved in centuries.
Peace.

And to SMT what do you mean type?
I understood what he was whining about.
Is that what you mean?

So if Valve said they we're keeping the story the same, but rolling back to the HL1 (Quake) Engine, you'd be ok with that?

i personally i couldnt give a flying **** about the graphics. i dont care if the graphics were like HL1, i just wanna find out what happens next. its the story im bothered about not the physics or the water.

as u can tell i play cs, where there are far better games in terms of graphics but the gameplay still rules all :p

from another thread

I think the point is, that valve had a winning formula with half-life so they are going to do the same sort of thing with half-life 2 its not all about graphics, its about a fun game that you want to play again and again, if we thought it looked dated and didn't want to play it why would we be here complaining about delays and junk?

oh look...thomas has made another enlightening and informative thread....

Arh bollocks! Her I ame using my time wrighting stuff and thene it is the wrong stuff! Pis 'os....

I agree it is old, and it is dissapointing.. but hey facts are facts.

Fact: Hl2 was delayed over a year, just like HL1 was.
Fact: Hl2 will still kick ass, even after the wait.

'probably'?

omg..as I siad in another post: Ppl like you should be forbidden to make threads, there's only so much the human eye can take when it comes to bullsh*t

I thought one of the key factors in Source's development process was to make it future proof.

If that was the case, then Valve could change the technology whenever they wanted to. Who knows - if the game does get delayed another 6 months, imagine what tweaks and additions Valve can make to the engine in that time. Who says it'll look old and out of date? Not I, for sure.

Just to add to that Valve has stated that it will be the Source engine used for HL3, so I think we can safely say that the engine will be able to hold its own for quite some time.
