Half-Life 2 is a old game, and is getting older as we speak.

y even reply. if u see a thread made by thomas u know to just ignore. the man is either a)retarded b)a 10 year old who has no clue what he's doing.

Im voting for b with a little bit of a. just ignore him and he'll go away.

You are probably one of the very few people who play games only if they are new instead of if they are fun then.

Of course you might not find them fun, but just take a good look over here why don't you:
http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/

You see Half-Life games are still by far the most popular in multiplayer, so obviously there are still many people who are perfectly happy to play old games instead of new ones.

Oh and btw:

PCGAMER UK, who has reviewed the game, already said that it's even better then they expected..so hereby close this topic please.

ATi Voucher: You get a free copy of the game, when it comes out, if it comes out.
Pre-order: Valve is not involved with preorders from retail outlets.
You're just impatient: Shut up and play something else.
You're the CEO of VUG: Technically, yes; VALVe owes you a game :O

it's really weird my mentality these days:

i'd rather the game get incredible reviews and i never get to play it...
than if i get the game now but it getting mediocre reviews.

i don't even know why i feel that way.

I disagree with you.

First of all, all the games you ve mentioned in your list are still in development as we speak. As we speak, the teams are adding and improving new technologies to their games, whereas HL2 has stoped long time ago from improvning.

The thread starter got a solid point, but his point will not prevent us from purchasing HL2.

Any game to be released in the next 6 months to a year is NOT having any significant new tech added to it. Go back to game development school.

Go back to game development school.
Now, if you are in a ""development school" or any other designer/producer game company/developer...
you should know that you can change or add anything into a game
or application even 1 second before it's going into those ""copy machines"".. or accepted RC..

Sure.. RC is a "final" product.. but if it's sent back...

You are wrong... but if it is in VU's hands.. you are right. :)

Do you still play HL or CS? Those games are over 5 years old.

HL was delay one year so it was already OLD when it was brand new. To this day it still remains one of the most popular PC games of all time.

What's the problem again?

The problem is, we'd like to get a game when it's at just the beginning of it's technological amazingness!

Sigh.... never mind, talking to a wall here.
But I'm gonna try it anyway. Games DO have stops for new technology being added, a point where there will be said 'STOP no more new feature adding'. If you don't, you'll end up in an infinite loop of 'lets wait a few months for that cool new technology and better hardware'.

And graphics of HL2 HAVE been improved this last year, look at the binks, the difference is big. For one, all the monsters that we've seen have now been fully normal mapped. And the difference between the 2003 G-Man and the 2004 one is HUGE.

And the graphics are not 'old', can you show me one thing that is old about the technology? It will still require a top pc to run it at maximum details, just like it takes a top pc to run Doom 3 at maximum details. They both excel at different area's.

Meh... fools.

I'd wait to say that until we have HL2. Who knows what awesome shadow leetness they might have added.

Well, if thats your prerequisite for playing a game, prepare yourself to not play HL2 either. The HL2 engine is just slightly older than HL (5 years old), been delayed one year, maybe until 2005. That is really old. If you play HL2 now with it being so old you are wierd. You will have to wear a disguise when purchasing it at the store the first day it is available because people will be pointing at you saying "Why is he buying such an old game? HL2 is soooooo OLD. His computer must not be able to play newer games." :upstare:

Hmm, this is quite funny, the GFX you guys are talking about stem from a 9 month old build of the game. Since then, animations and textures as well as bugs have been updated. On top of that, that binks never managed to capture the true qualtity of the GFX, i was surprised just how good they really were, no one can judge the GFX until they see the game in person.

and you should surely know that anyone doing that is unlikely to ever complete their project. A game's tech is typically locked down long before completion, to ensure that a) it all works and b) that the artists aren't having to redo their work every time someone adds a new feature.

Sure.. RC is a "final" product.. but if it's sent back...

You would end up with another Duke Nuke'em Forever. ;)

Wow, how deep, enlightening, and thoughtful.

Thank you.
Nah, I mean.. They gonna release dat in 2009, imo...

It's already gone "old".. hawr, imo as I said.

um, i have been playing the CS:S beta for a few months now.....it, by no means, looks old or outdated. Actually, there have been quite a few visual changes in the last months, and most of them HAVE BEEN AT THE BETA USER'S REQUEST. I mean, they had bullet hols on the exit side of objects....they were removed. At that time, my 9800pro would get about 69-74 fps in the VST...now, they have added those decals back(which, of course, requires a bit more horsepower), and the current fps i get, with 4x AA and 16xAF is 86-90 fps....10-15 fps more.

even doom3 does not come close to the visual clarity and detail with a large number of players at a t distance.....and i mean real people over the internet. If the online version plays this good, you know for sure that the SP will too.

for you tyo say it's old, but not look at the hardware survey that was done last week.....most people aren't even gonna be able to turn on most of those goodies that you seem to be wanting.

remember too, how long it was that games were made off of the quake engine, and what engine CZ used, even though it ain't that great. How can it be old, when it will probably get used for the next 4-5 years, if not longer?

No. You havent paid for anything old or new. If you bought an ATI card with a free voucher you bought an ATI card with a free voucher.

If you bought a new computer in anticipation for the game you bought a new computer.

Since the game has not been released you have not bought and or paid for anything with regards to a game.

no. your wrong.

just one thing, i completely agree with you, except that you havent been playing for a few months, a month and a week to be exact. :p

Why did they remove the bullet holes in the first place? I'm just thinking out loud

lol what makes you think i only have one log-in?

doesn't amtter anyway, really..
my point is that it is not old, it is being constantly updated..anbd some of the new things are actually old things, that before caused slowdown, but because of speeding up the netcode, and from what i can tell, speeding up the engine too......

what makes HL2 different from all the rest is the physics... textures and visual goodies can be added or removed. As gpu's get more powerful, this engine should be quite adaptable...

I would love hl2 if it looked like hl1 and sounded like hl1, its the physics and gameplay i care about, and the story

Again and again I find my self being embarassed by the lame posts of a fellow Norwegian. Stop this, Thomas. Please.

When I first heard that Valve was working on Half-Life 2 I thought: Wow, cool. I need to buy this game.

Then the bad news:

Half-Life 2 is delayed.

I said to my self: Thats ok, everything gets delayed.

Now, almost one year later I still see the same graphics, and no special improvements in todays binks. And now they are probably going to delay it 6 more months?

Are we paying for a OLD game?

You are a troll, to put it simply.

I don't care much for the best graphics and all of the newest technology and features in HL2. I just want it to be a good game.

When I first played Blood, it was 4 years old. When that game was released its graphics were old for its time (competing against quake). But guess what.....
What game was by far more fun, which game have I played countless hours in multi, which game have I finished a bizzilion times.....Blood!

Graphics are Icing on the Cake that is the GAME PLAY.
