Half Life 2 is scarier than D3!

i thought d3 was scarier, probably becaus it is always dark and you can't see crap. i hate dark places

jesus man, I just played through ravenholm by myself with all the lights out, headphones on and turned up, plus im paranoid as hell.

I was freaking out every time one of those really fast zombies ran at me, and I was in Ravenholm for like an hour.

So glad to be over with that; maybe I'll try it in the day sometime.

doom3: the lights will suddenly turn off than go dim .. then you'll hear scraping, screaming and other scary sounds .. than you'll fumble to press f to turn the flashlight on while sweating and you slowly check each and every pitch black corner than you'll hear something behind you .. than you'll swing around, switch to a gun and lose the flashlight and try and fight off enemies in the dark.

.. and repeat

Yea Doom 3 is alot scarier then HL2, its funny how these little kids try to act tough online and front that Doom 3 is not scary, get bent children.
I bet you when they played Doom 3, they had to change underwear more then 3 times.

Those fast zombies appear in other places too. They often get a cheap scare out of me and I end up dumping a whole mag into them. I have even gotten startled by rollermines lol. They popped out of the attic of some house and fell on the second floor right where I was standing. Scared me. :)

there was one part that could be deemed semi-scary in ravenholm, when your waiting for the cart to come across and you can see/hear all the pipes shaking as the 'monkeys' climb up.

see that sounds cool, but in execution it doesn't work like that.

instead its more like:
you hear the SAME scraping/screaming all throughout the game.. it gets repetitive and obvious (the first time, I was like... oh cool!, then it was like... uh huh again eh?)

turn on your flashlight merely to see where the hell the retarded looking "demon" is, pinpoint it with your weapon and kill it easily as it ambles/trots towards you begging to be riddled with bullets.

the dark is scary for all of 2 seconds and loses even more atmosphere when you realize creatures are merely spawning in little closets with just enough space for an imp, and absolutely no logical reason for it to be there, or the creature to be in it.

you get used to every enemy spawning behind you and learn to spin around and shoot after about the third creature encounter.

the story is non existent after the first hour or two and you merely run from point A to point B, hitting check points along the way... there is no psychological scare factor, no horror factor, nothing.. it's merely an action game in the dark, where you have to put away your weapon to find what to shoot at, and even then it breaks the action game feel...

there are no decent challenges and the game feels cut and pasted at times.

then again everyone is different, as much as I wanted this game to scare me (and took every precaution so that it would, no lights, no people, no external sound, full gfx, low gamma, etc etc)
it simply came off as second rate in everything besides the visuals (at the time, now surpassed by HL2) however even that is up for debate since it too is personal preference.

firstly, don't assume who people are because they have a differing opinion, secondly don't insult them for said fact.

my friends and I call it "Dim 3" not "Doom 3".

and when WE say D3, it's referring to Descent 3.

Its those headhoppers that scare the shit out of me. They are always alone in some chosen hallway to jump with that rattlesnake sound. They do pretty much carry the same rattlesnake traits since they bring HP down to 1 and all.

Ooooooh the sounds of all the creepy shit in Ravenholm. expecially when the fast zombies are climbing up the poles...I loved it! :naughty:

Ravenholm was the coolest chapter in HL2. Now it had it's moments that would make me go "Oh crap!" like the animalistic zombies and poison head crabs, but it didnt have nearly the amoutn of "Oh ****!" moments that Doom 3 had. I think alot of the scare factor has to do with the fact that in D3 there is less ammo and health availible (on more difficult settings) and monsters are harder to kill but in HL2 stuff is just harder to kill :\ so you are try9ng to ration ammo and whatnot but in hl2 there is a ton of supply packs everywhere and hidden spots are a little too obvious.

Both are great games and I'm glad I own both.

Idk, some parts of it just scared me really... bad. Yeah, its just I get all tense then something scares the shite out of me. :rolling: :rolling:

I found that accidentally flipping through the channels and landing on an episode of Blue's Clues gave me more of a scare than anything I got from Doom 3. Could they possibly have made the spawns any more predictable? I don't think they could... unless they put big neon signs in front of them that said "BEWARE OF DEMON" with an arrow pointing where the monster will be. Oh, and I was interested in the storytelling for a whopping 5 minutes.

What's scary, to me, is how some people think Doom 3 is scary, period... much less 1000x scarier than anything in HL2. Doom 3 relied almost 100% on startling the player... not scaring them. I don't know about you guys, but that only works the first few times for me... then you might as well have the monsters politely ask "Pardon me, but would you mind if I were to attempt to cause your life functions to cease?" before they attacked you.

In doom 3, when I saw a monster, i was ready to take it down, no sweat. Sure it has its few moments, but you are always on edge in the dark, and it gets repetitive.

In HL2, when I saw several zombies scampering on the roofs and the drain pipes rattling, my spine locked up and I nearly lost control of my bowels. I actually dreaded seeing poison spiders and walkingpoisonspidercarrierthingy, and most of all the scampering screaming zombie.

Im currently in the citadel, damn elite troops put up quite a fight on Hard difficulty.

i remember in "route kanel" when your crowbaring some planks that are holding up a oil tanker of some sort, when you finally get thu it almost falls down :! that made me jump a bit, infact i think i sprinted backwards the first time i played thu it :O!
