I just wanted to post my computer specs and see if it will hold its own and bring the game and make it look like it should for both...

Hard Drive - 250GB
Memory - 1.5 GB
Processor - 4 CPU 3.40GHz
Graphics Card - RADEON X300 series

I have a sony vaio...

Unfortunately, the graphic card will not run Half-Life 2 too good (although playable) and deffinitely not Lost Coast. Radeon X300's performance is similar to GeForce 6200.

Will it do some good or should I try to get a new graphics card, if so what one and how much is it...

Pfft my 9800 pro plays half life 2 just fine, so I dont see why your x300 shouldn't cope with it.

His 3.4 processor can make up for the lack in his X300 for Aftermath (to an extent, but it will be enough). But a new graphics cip will be neded for lostcoast.

I am getting a new Nvidia 6800 ultra or its a 6700? anyway im getting that so i will run lost coast like a pearl now.

Isn't Lost Coast just a sort of virility symbol?

Your 9800 Pro is a lot more powerful than an X300...

y do so many ppl make threads about this use the search button

If you ask me, the 9800pro is better than the x300. x300 is low consumer level. 9800pro is past high end/now entry level.

And a good card would be the nvidia 6800gt. If you ask me, don't spend money on the 6800 non gt. The GT isn't all that much more, but you get a whole lot better performance.

um i have 512 mb and a 128 bit ATi Radeon 9550 , will this run HL lost coast and Aftermath? i think it should it ran HL2 fine...

Hard Drive - 70GB
Memory - 768 MB
Processor - 4 CPU 2.02GHz
Graphics Card - RADEON 9550 series

would I be albe to play? half life 2 runs fine on my system

why,yes! yes it is... :D

but it also contains storyline events, for those who care..

and its sooo damn pretty! ;)

So all HDR is doing is blurring distance images, adding more reflective surfaces, and bloom? Because from the Lost coast video, that's all that it looks like
All HDR does is help add the lighting we see every day.

It's pretty good that you keep reminding people for double posting, Could be for a good use

Although I did it myself ...hehe

Specs are in the sig....will i atleast be able to play it? forget about the HDR or whatever its called...i just want to find out more about the story...i can't see why i couldnt though...

No you can't.

From what i've heard, HDR will actually be used in puzzles and such, and so won't be "turn offable" like we all though.

And VALVe officially/finally released info regarding that LC WILL infact have story ellements (CRITICAL story elements) unlike we all previously thought.

I have 1.6 GHZ and a Radeon 9200 I can play HL2 well so will I be able to play HL2: LC well atall?

I've been considering skipping Lost Coast.

I have a 9800 pro, but my processor is only 2.16 GHz and my machine has the standard 512Mb RAM.

It will, in all probability run, but I won't be expecting too much.

No. A high spec graphics card is the key for lost coast. The 9200 was (probably considered) entry level... a year or 2 ago.

u need at least 3.0ghz cpu 3400+amd 1gig of ram and a highend gfx card to play
WELL

If HL2 ran fine on your computer, Aftermath will most likely do the same. It may have slightly higher hardware requirements as most game expansions, but the gameplay shouldn't be affected much.
As to Lost Coast... I think it has been said enough times already - Valve says it will require a high end graphic card (Radeon X800 series or GeForce 6800 series), but there's hope it will be playable on a R9800PRO/XT (comparable to X700PRO) or 6600GT series of cards.

wow thats bs, will Aftermath be the same?

It is not bullshit, because Lost coast has been created for exactly that - pushign Source to its limits.

Aftermath will not be the same.

So let me get this straight...Valve will be complete dinks and not let normal HL2 users find out more about the story? Or will we have to watch our computers chug through the level? will we be able to atleast be able to turn it down? or turn other things down so we can atleast play and learn more about the story?

You'll be able to turn it down but honestly, there isn't that much story info in Lost coast from the looks of thing. Yes, thats where they shelled the hell out of Ravenholm but that isn't a major story twist, we already know it got shelled.

There could be more though...Valve is good at keeping secrets...also i remember hearing After Math using it too.
When it comes to playing the level, i just want to play everything playable when it comes to the Half Life series...

You can turn off the HDR.

I've just changed my videocard from a radeon 9600 to a radeon 9700 PRO (switched it with a friend, for free). I really see a difference when I play, specially outdoor in HL2. The trees and clouds are amazing!! :D

Just so you all know, a 9200SE can run it on everything lowest. My 9600XT can run it on all high.

References ftw.

no crap

A previous post said you could't  ...that is why my rants continued..
They have stated in aftermath you could, but nothing about Lost Coast.

I'm sure ATi and NVIDIA will release brand new drivers the time Lost Coast and Aftermath come out.

Just remember, an Athlon 3000+ series processor is equal to a P4 that's around 3.4 ghz, so if you have an Athlon 3200+, it should run Lost Coast fine.

It's obvious from the screenshots and videos released that HDR is optional. In fact, that's kind of strange: if as they say, the feature is enabled, why aren't they sprucing up their official media with sexy lighting?

Oh, it's worth remembering that LC won't have high requirements JUST because of HDR. They've gone overboard with the quality of just about everything you'd normally have in the level, i.e. super high resolution textures, complex bump-mapping (or whatever it's called these days) and all the rest. Whether it'll be scaleable back to lesser, HL2 capable PCs remains to be seen. Valve said in the 1up interviews that their goal with retail games is that people within a 3 year technology window should be able to play their games, but that isn't a concern with Lost Coast at all.

FFS Loast coast will have a high and a low mode so if your card does not support the features required for High mode then no problem you will still be able to playbut without all cool effects.
