Half Life 2: Lost Coast and Aftermath Specs

Will I be able to play aftermath or lost coast with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 integrated graphics with 128MB shared memory? It ran hl2 with average 30fps. I have a AMD Athlon64 3200+, 1GB DDR400 ram and 80GB hard disk. If I want at least 60fps at XGA, which graphics card is recommended?

im looking to get a new graphics card to replace my integrated graphics..
should i get a 6600, 6600GT or 6800GT to enjoy aftermath/lostcoast?

If you've got an intergrated card I doubt you even have a slot for a new gfx card. That aside stay the hell away from Nvidia. Those vile demons will eat your very soul.

Back ontopic If it runs it runs. Running it well is completeley different and doesn't allways rely purley on beefed up hardware? Whats the state of your OS settings and HDD people?

im using a msi rs480m2 with a pcx slot and 3 pci slots.
what is gfx card and what's wrong wif nvidia cards? so you're saying i should go wif ati then?

I see nothing wrong with nVidia cards, maybe the 5xxx series weren't too good, but the 6 and 7 series are pretty nice.

A graphic card is a seperate PCB thing (Printed Circuit Board - computer cards look almost like the electronic things you see when you disassemble your walkman ;)) that you can insert into your AGP or PCIe-x16 slot on your computer's mainboard.

ps - I've checked your mainboard and you have a PCI Express X16 interface on it, so you can buy and install a seperate graphics card. It's a matter of choice if you choose ATI or nVidia - just check the benchmarks on computer websites and pick the model that suits you - right now, buying an nVidia card seems cheaper than ATI.

ATI cards generally have slower OpenGL performance, which can be noticed the most in Doom3. Right now, nVidia cards are a lot faster in Doom3 (but not only, also games like IL2-Sturmovik) and perform just as good as ATI in Half-Life 2. I've used several ATI cards and I must say that when I'm going to upgrade, I'm gonna get nVidia. Ofcourse, it depends how well the new ATI cards will do ;)

But for lost coast i need at least a 6800GT right? Is it true that ATI cards have 20% more performance in hl2 than nvidia cards? Maybe I'll wait for ATI's next generation cards or nvidia's 7600GT cards to be released before I decide.

Yes, I think it's a good decision to wait a bit before deciding - let's wait for ATI X1000 series reviews.

ATI cards are generally a bit faster than nVidia's in Half-Life 2, but the 6600GT, 6800-series aren't that noticably slower, not noticably.

As for the Lost Coast requirements - it's hard to say, to be honest. I've read the benchmarks and reviews released so far and it seems like LC is gonna be pretty playable on a R9800Pro/XT.
