The Half Life 2 Mod Makers Guide by Prima as today been withdrawn.

I have talked to somebody “not from prima” about this and this is what I got:

Please wait a moment. You are being connected to an available operator.
You are now chatting with 'Adam'

darren: Hello I recently had an outstanding order with yourselves for Half Life 2 Mod Makers Guide (Prima) do you have any idea on why it was cancelled.

darren: order number: 1352237

Adam: unfortunately the publishers have discontinued that item today so we had to withdraw the product from our system, you should get a letter regarding this in the next few days, sorry.

darren: ok thank you

darren: bye

Adam: Thanks for chatting. Bye !

Oh NO!!! Looked like it could be worth a read...Any idea of why its discontinued??

I have contacted prima on the situation and I look forward to seeing what they have to say:

Dear Sir/Madam

I am enquiring on why have you felt the need to withdraw publishing: The Half Life 2 Mod Makers Guide

As I was really looking forward to it after having brought Half-Life 2 Raising the bar and the Half-Life 2 Guide and being was overwhelmed by the quality.

Yours sincerely
Darren Straight

maybe..
a.) It made them lose lot's of money *doubtfull*
b.) It was outdated a bit,a nd didn't really help people, but instead confused them more? :p

I just got an email from ebgames that confirms this. Looks like it really has been cancelled. DAMMIT

Dear EBgames.com Customer,

EBgames.com strives to fill all of the orders that we receive but once in a while a product that is listed as coming soon does not make it onto the shelves. This has happened with an item that you have on order. Halflife 2 Mod Makers PCHB has been cancelled by the manufacturer and we will be unable to sell it. We have cancelled your order for this item and your credit card will not be charged. If you have other items on your order, those will remain on the order and shipped as soon as possible.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to either reply to this e-mail or give us a call at 877-432-9675.

We apologize for the inconvenience,
EBgames.com Customer Service

Online petitions never work...
Except once to make Blockbusters stock widescreen DVD's. Of course, that was the precedence that created all this online petition hubub.

As of today, Gamestop sent out an email informing managers that the guide has been "delisted".

This usually applies to games that are too old and not being made anymore, but can also work for pre-order items that have been cancelled or delayed indefinitely.

Customers who pre-ordered through Gamestop will be informed via phone or email.

I spoke to Jess Cliffe about this and he says there's no news as yet. Officially this is still just a rumour.

oooh i wish i had 'contacts'

I could say yeah just spoke to Doug...we're going golfing this weekend...and lunch after...oops

Yeah on topic, rumours only? good so there still a chance.

You know, everyone should just ask Jason Buzzby and his fantastic crew to make one :) Have you seen the "Mastering Unreal" book yet? It's an absolute must-have for people interested in level design :)

They say it covers pretty much everything Unreal Editor has to offer in terms of map-making... They say the only thing left out was detailed information on weather systems, but hey if you read through the entire book, I'm sure that you could experiment so you understand the weather system.

TBH I never had much faith in the book, because there is SOOO much work that goes into making mods, and almost no book can cover the entire process... I mean they would have to teach people to code, model, animate, texture, map, playtest (it is a part of the process), and other things... I was hoping though I would be proving wrong, but now it seems I don't have the chance to.

I would be happy if they brought the book back though, I'm sure it would definetely help beginners (which is of course the book's purpose :p )

yeah that mastering unreal book is outrageous. 1000 pages. its awesome, as are the 70 hours of video tutorials buzz3d did that come with the dvd version of ut2004.

Yeah, except that it's not just rumors that Gamestop and EB have cancelled pre-orders on it and won't be carrying it.

Be a real shame if this book doesn't materialise. Lets hope that if Prima don't get on the case then someone else will. I think people will buy this book even if they only had a passing interest in modding/mapping with Source. I'd certainly buy it.

Yep ive ordered mine from amazon UK and my estimated dispatch time is 11th of april.

Let us know if you actually get it alright.

I want it! I've been waiting forever, ffs.

so now - april 11th has come and im wondering if its still going to be dispatched - question aimed at lemingzappa really...

Where did the 11th of April date come from? Is that what Amazon qouted on the order? Amazon.com still have the release as May 3rd so that dispatch estimate looks a tad optimistic to say the least.

On top of that I can't find anything about this book on the Prima site. It looks pretty unlikely that it's still in the pipeline to me. I'm going to e-mail Prima to try & get some solid info about it. Maybe we should all to the same say they start to get the idea that a lot of people are interested in this book?

This is all ive got from amazon so far.

"Delivery estimate: 11 April 2005 - 26 April 2005"

Agh! Will it ever be released...or at least have the matter cleared up. Would have been a good guid i'd say.

Well theyve got a week left to dispatch it to me...if they dont i'llbe complaining.

chris d how do you mean you spoke to jess cliffe?

was it like, just via email or do you get special contact details like his steam friends handle?

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to report that the following item has been delayed.

Prima Temp Authors "Half Life 2 - Mod Maker's Guide: Official
Strategy Guide"

Our current estimate is that it will take an additional 4-6 weeks to
obtain this item for you.

well....tbh I think they are just going to keep delaying me until they finally say that it has been discontinued..

they'll keep your money and just keep sending you that e-mail...

IDIOTS!!! (or very clever marketing ploy)
