Half-Life is definitively a single player experience. If what they've done is genuinely revolutionary then they deserve every drop of praise.

Everything we've seen indicates that HL2 is a far superior experience to Doom 3 - even PC Gameplay claim this.

Considering how boring and repetitive Doom III was, it wouldn't be a possibility for anybody who has good taste in games. But then again Doom III wouldn't have been given higher than an 85% in the first place.

Doom III's multiplayer is basically a rehash of ten year old crap and it got a 94%.

The problem isn't Half-Life 2 getting less than a perfect score. If the criticisms are valid and well explained, nobody will care that much. It's the fact that such a mediocre game with a nice lighting engine was given a 94% which doesn't leave much room to appropriately score a game like HL2 and still look like sane editorial content.
