Half Life 2 netters of BF2 days, Lend me your ears!

I've never played project reality...isn't it just BF2 with more realism?

Enn: Yeah, pretty much. Basically, take out all the annoying, overpowered and downright wrong things in BF2 and tweak them all to completion. It's fantastic, but it ain't for everyone.

Stig: Nah, just vanilla and the latest patch. I'll play both but I'd prefer PR myself but all's cool.

Problem is, whilst vanilla would be a nice, laid back type of game that doesn't require quite so much demand that PR does, it's still ruined by the grenade spamming, bunny hopping, dolphin diving jet whoring players that still play. I honestly wouldn't mind the game so much as a break from PR but ye gods, it annoys me so.

I'll link up with some of you guys and give it a shot, though.

It only requires vanilla battlefield 2. I don't even own the other expansions.

It's not just battlefield 2 with more realism. I'd say it's completely different. I've only been playing it for under a week, but I'm having a blast so far.

I especially love the insurgency game mode... but there's only one server that runs that mode 24/7 that is actually populated, and I play there most of the time as a civilian on the insurgency side. Tons of fun.

Well, cool. I get the feeling I'd probably like it more than BF2 itself, since I tend to prefer realistic shooters over arcadey ones, especially when teamplay is involved (thus why I'm a COD4/DOD/Ins whore).

The mod feels a lot like operation flashpoint to me... Though more engaging because the fluidity of combat is far greater, and the graphics of course are prettier.

I seriously recommend PR myself. It's just so much satisfying than vanilla. It has a learning curve, and you will need to read the guide/manual on the internet because a lot of the game is very alien/different to BF, such as things like having to have an actual tank crew member kit to drive or gun tanks, or each squad can only have one or two support gunners. But once you've soaked it all in it's a fantastic experience.

Yeah I enjoy PR a lot as well, yes it's true you probably won't get into right away. But once you do you'll probably really enjoy it as Antipop and others stated.

I won't be getting BF2. The Titan Ops are just too much fun to give up.

Come on guys, get on the HL2.netBF2 chat! :D

K, I just bought BF2 from best buy, its installed now but the super duper bowl is on now, so i gtg. Whats the latest patch i need to download when i get back?

I absolutely HATED Project Reality. I really can't stand that mod.

Its best to keep it vanilla, for one people who haven't played PR won't know the maps and the intricacies of the gameplay, wouldn't be too noob friendly whereas with BF2 you can jump right in.

You people are insane.

Project Reality is what made BF2 finally playable for me. D:

I'll admit, it's a very good mod, and worthy of all the praise, I just don't have any fun playing it. If I wanted reality, I wouldn't be playing a video game :p

The quality for that mod is outstanding, but, as CyberPitz said, the over-realism is more hindering than fun.

Meh, I like how the realism adds actual challenge.

Different strokes I guess.

Man... on insurgency mode as an insurgent, the british were pounding the western village heavily. We were down to two caches, and ultimately we lost, but I just had a fun moment. For the longest time this damn apc was harassing us from across the river, firing and killing our guys as they tried to repel the attacks.

I swam around the river and took a wide jog around to his flank, and got up close... dropping down a moltov cocktail right beneath him, and he instantly blew up. I think he was injured from a previous RPG blast I hit him with. We didn't have anymore rpgs in that area, so I was left to improvise. Felt damn good to destroy that stupid apc with a simple fire bomb.

:bounce:

I played PR a long time ago and it was alright..until I got in a helicopter which was waaay too fast. Have they changed that at all?

I just played some and got a medal in my first round lawl. Havent lost my game hahah.

Man, I have fun playing the insurgency gametype just by playing as the British squad that is assigned to protect the checkpoint. Some of the fire fights and pushes the insurgents put onto that place are insane.

I need to start playing again. I can't stand playing as the insurgents or civvies, though. British LSW gunner or tank crewman all the way.

PRM>Vanilla

But I agree, it would be too much of a hassle for everyone to install it and get into it to have fun, if we want a hl2.net game going.

I'm waiting for my copy in the mail.

Hopefully it will get here soon

You bought it just for this? Bad decision I'd say... unless you're really psyched about the idea of playing it even without hl2.net members, since it is a great game.

lol that's what I was thinking. Either that or you need to find some friends to play the game with. Forget trying to always join random servers and join random squads, the game usually blows when you do that since good random squads are so rare. :/

I've been meaning to get it for awhile. A bunch of my friends kept hassling me to get it. Then I saw we had this, and got it for about 7 dollars off amazon.

Well you can't go wrong for $7, it's definitely worth that. If you have a friend who's a godly attack heli pilot, it'll make your experience 200% more enjoyable.

I got it from Best buy for 9 bucks. Once I set up my joystick, its gunna be like old times, dogfighting and blowing suckers out of the air.

Anything in the air anymore is a joke. What? You're behind another jet? Is it a J-10? You win, unless you're an idiot and don't follow him at all.

*Grumbles about the hitboxes...*

Pff... jets are for pussies. Real men solo the heli.

:D

lern 2 dodge. Unless they changed something, getting someone off your tail is possible if you know how to maneuver. Drop your throttle, tuck left, then punch the throttle and hit the afterburner and bam, now you're in position for the kill.

Doesn't matter, you're already dead. The missiles will not miss, unless you're flying the J-10, then they miss more often, but still, you're more than likely going to die. Even at full bank, missiles will smack you. By the time you slow down enough to dodge, you're already dead.

And yes, soloing heli is for real men :D

Missiles take time to lock though, and ive always been able to act quickly enough to maneuver the instant the beeping starts. When I played back in the early days, I ruled the skies.

I suck at bombing though :|
