Just wondering what you guys think of HL2 going to Xbox.

I could care less, but I guess its good to get it released so more time to work on CS:S, HL2:AM, HL2DM, DoD:S, TF2,etc..

Who cares when you have it for PC? :)

I will be gettign it anyway...adds to the collection :)

Its going to look crap, they should wait and put it on Xbox2. still, i guess this is one of them Vivendi contract things...they have to release it.

It is going to have better lighting.

Better lighting, worse textures and lower polycounts... I know what i'd rather have.

HL2 looks amazing because of its high-res textures and models... most definatly not the lighting however its improved.

I hope they dumb it down so it plays like crap and has everything stripped out. That'll give Xbox users a taste of their own medecine.

Wouldn't you rather have it be close to the original so more people can play and enjoy HL2? My roomates aren't big PC gamers or gamers in general, but they'll play it when it comes to xbox because they have laptops that definitely can't run HL2.

I hope it has co-op or something.

People have to bare in mind that Valve aren't releasing this game on the XBox for us. Most of us will be much more comfortable playing the game on the PC, have a PC capable of better graphics and sound and generally appreciate it more on the PC.

However, there are millions more XBox players in the world than there is PC gamers. A really significant amount of people that would enjoy this game haven't got the opportunity to play it because either they can't afford a computer, can't use a computer or don't have a decent enough computer so there's going to be a massive target audience and that target isn't aimed at us at all.

EDIT: For example on Halo 2's first day of release it was estimated that it took over $125,000,000 in revenue. If you divide that by the average cost of the game (~$45), you get a figure of 2,777,778 copies sold. It took Half-Life 2 10 weeks to get 1,700,000 copies sold. Though that figure doesn't include Steam sales, it certainly still demonstrates how the userbase of XBox is much larger than that of PC games and will hopefully explain why it's getting released on the XBox :)

I own the PC version but I will still buy the Xbox version. Doom 3 was a great game on the Xbox.

The textures- which I thought were excellent in HL2- will have to be toned down a lot, because the Xbox only has 64 mb RAM. Plus, there will be no online features whatsoever... which is extremely suprising seeing as the Xbox prides itself on Xbox live, and seeing as HL2 has such a sublime multiplayer mode I think valve are just plain silly for not including it. So not only is it not aimed at us, but we really have no reason to buy it.

(Probally the most annoying thing is that all the Halo2 gamers will still be able to say that Halo2 has beter multiplayer...)

I thinks you guys are focussing too much on the graphical aspect- with it's fast pace and constant action, i don't see why this wouldn't be a really fun game to play on the xbox.

My thoughts: No MODs... pointless to get it on XBox

Mods didn't make Half-Life 2 one of the most critically acclaimed games of the year though, did it? ;)

I enjoyed Half-Life 2 for its story, gameplay and its damn fun level. I could really care less for some light coming through a window.

boo hooz. Whats the matter, want to have the games ''full glory'' on the PC to yourself and not that other people who don't have OMGF HI TECH COMPS LLO can enjoy it? Pssh.

I'm getting it. Mainly because my PC didn't run it at is best (omg sue me) and I'd like to see what its like without the annoying lag I got. Plus, I no longer can play Half-Life 2 on my computer.

see people thats the reason of why the release of HL2 on xbox is a good thing

cuz not everyone hav ubber PC to run HL2,am I am one of them

so more people enjoy the game and more money to valve

the ones that think that is sutpid that HL2 is going to be on xbox I just want to say why you all care? HL2 released on xbox will not affecte your game in your PC so why you all cry about that?

Seriously, I could care less on what system it is on.
I dont mind spreading the love around to other console gamers :D

Exactly. I just think its a shame that Xbox users are missing out on any form of multiplayer that comes with the game :(. HL2DM is the funniest (not funnest, but still pretty damn fun) MP around, and to play it with mates on an Xbox would totally rock.

I think it'll be interesting to see how Xboxers react to such a work of art. Will they understand it? Will they just quit in a minute because "omg i'm on a train where's my weapons? OMG there's no weapons i'm returning this to EB omfg im gonna play halo2"

But I hope they love it.

been playing Doom 3 on the xbox and surprisingly enough its damn good for a console version of a PC game...

I have seen the screens of HL2 on xbox and again not bad for a PC to console port..

of course neither one is as good as the "real" version but for those people that are keyboard and mouse controls impaired its a nice way for them to get a taste of the true glory

its a shame so many are close minded about the xbox...most people I know that own one are over 18 and actually pretty well mannered..unlike most cs players(18+ or otherwise)..

but whatever,to each their own

and RJMC you have got a damn good point..too many people exude the feeling "Oh no!!xbox version will screw up my PC version!!1!"..some people....

Nope, but in HL1's case, Counter-Strike is what put alot of money in VALVe's pockets.

Sure the game itself is great, but you can only play it so many times before it gets old. Mods make you money go so much farther than any non-PC game ever could.

Console HL2 would be a good rent; thats all...

But this is the console market, how many consolers buy console games for mods? None.

Mods are not a criteria for their purchase decisions. Replayability, yes. Which is why valve are being silly not including HL2dm. I can see the console market thoroughly enjoying a game like that.

No multiplayer part is bordering on rediclous, goodbye replayability

I think a little hl2 deathmatch wouldn't go amiss, I mean it would go down like a treat with the grav gun.

Without HL2DM in the console version, theres really no reason to buy the game at all. Other than alternate difficulty levels, there is no real replayability.

It's not really a part of replayability... because your not replaying HL2 at all, your playing (usualy) a totaly different game.

Thats what makes Mods to ingenious. "I pay $50 for one game and get 50 more free!"

Heres what will be the story for 99.9% of people who buy HL2 on XBox:
*$50 --- CHING!*
Johnny: "Alright! Just got my copy of this awesome game, Half-Life 2! My buddies that played it on PC told me it was great!"
15 Hours later...
Johnny: "Wow, that game rocked! What else is there to do?"
No MP in sight...meanwhile, his PC playing buddies are rocking on CS:S, HL2DM and any number of cool mods that are out by then.
Johnny: "Oh... well... that kinda sucks... oh well, guess I'll trade it in"
Gets an average of $25 back for it
Johnny: "Man... I just effectively lost 25 dollars for what could have been a $5 rental... I got screwed didnt I?"
Yes Johnny... yes you did.

But again, the console market is different. They buy single player games for the single player experience. Think about all the single player only games that are extremely successful. Devil May Cry series, metal gear series, grand theft auto series, resident evil series, final fantasy series up until that recent mmorpg one, blood omen series. It just goes on and on.

I know all the PS2 games i've purchased were for single player only. I look for great single player experiences that don't necessarily have to be replayable. I've only finished MGs2 once but i consider it as one my favourite games of all time despite having replayed other games far more.

Without HL2DM in the console version, theres really no reason to buy the game at all.
Pish posh!! Half-Life 2 is a fantastic single player game and definitely worth the purchase.

If it has no online play it will only be a shortlived game for the Xbox. Unless they have a bunch of unlockable levels that totally ruin the storyline.

You really think there are less than 20 million pc gamers in the world? I wouldn't have thought so but maybe you're right.

The lack of multiplayer will turn of a lot of Xbox owners, especially when Xbox 2 hype is in full swing, I'm sure valve will make a nice profit of it though.

What do most of those have in common that HL2 dosent have? Replayablility.
In Meta Gear, you want to play them over again so you can get all the secret stuff and different endings. Same thing with Resident Evil. Final Fantasy games are worth the buy becuase they take 30+ hours to beat.

Most console games are developed with solid reasons to replay the game. HL2 dosent have any reward or alternate ending or anything of the sort that will entice people to replay it.

More dollar signs for valve means more recources going into Half-Life³ so I say, go for it mr xbox version.

HL2 does have replayability because of the quality of the campaign. But thats really about it though. However with games like Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil, they dont offer many great rewards when you go through them a second time.

in MGS there's the bandana, which gives you all the weapons (at least i think it does) and infinite ammo, but wheres the challenge? In RE 4 you can save up your money and buy the Chicago Typewriter or the Infinite Bazooka, which make the game way too easy and take the fun out of it. Ninja Gaiden doesnt offer any rewards and you can't keep the weapons from the end of the game, only unlockable costumes. But really, with all these games the best part is finishing it the first time. If the game is worth playing over again then thats great, which is the case for most of these games (Not MGS for me, i finished it last night and felt pissed off that i spent 5 bucks to rent that P.O.S)
