VRMag has produced some panoramic shots of a few of the most recognisable scenes from Half-Life 2 in an article in the May issue of the magazine. They look fantastic, offering a great, unique look at the beautiful scenery to be found in the game.

I can't see the pictures for some reason...

Wooo it's like playing the game with a fish eye lens and no wsad keys!

Try getting Quicktime, thats the icon I saw before the pictures loaded.

publishers need to start releasing these things as promotional material along with normal screenshots.

Very nice. But how the feck do they do that with Quick Time??!!

QuickTime has got a built-in "QuickTime VR" -system that does that 360-degree panoramic stuff.

Looks pretty cool.

edit: Is that a Garry's Mod one I see in there?

edit2: It appears as if they're all or at least most of them were taken in Garry's Mod. I might be wrong.

This should be a requisite for all screenshots released for any game. I <3 it.

You know, I spent almost a whole year drooling over every picture or video I could find of HL2 before it was released. I went through the whole 30th of September release horror thing with all of you guys. I've spent "I don't know how many" hours of playing this game, I've played it 4 times already...

But it's still jawdropping!

It still is truly beautiful.

Congratulations, you can do exactly the same thing as while playing Half-Life 2, and put it on full detail and get the same framerate

yeah, its interesting but... easier to just load the game up and play :|

It takes more time to load the game though. And I'm too lazy to do that.

Well, you can play the game, you can't play this. So it can be taken two ways:

-As a really nice screenshot. Or
-As a really crappy in game emulation.

Just depends on how you look at it.

I prefer the former rather than the latter. These are nice screens. :O

Try zooming in and out for some really trippy stuff. :)

Yeah, I agree it would make for some great screenshots...but honestly, this just seemed like a waste of time. It looks a lot more amazing when the environment is moving.

Panoramic INS screens coming? :naughty:
You read my mind. We actually saw DaveJ's blog explaining how to do it and thought that is a nice idea. Now we've seen it in action and considering it even more. You normally wouldn't get this information out of me, but I've been drinking - despite my perfect typing.

Why on earth did they spawn all those npcs in the canals shot? Just makes it look silly.

To the people saying "why not just play the game?".....your missing the point.

The website is for VR enthusiasts, not HL2 gamers. Many of them wont have HL2. It gives them a nice introduction to HL2 and shows them something else they can do with their QTVR software.

They aint made for us, its made for them.

Bit pointless but cool none the less. Too bad these werent out about a month before the game, if theyd come b4 we played through the scenes itd fully kick arse. As someone said above its not really for HL2 fans but the VR mob, one I can say I don't follow but none the less this is fairly impressive

Id die if I saw some Unreal 2006/7 screenshots like this now.

These look really cool. Gives a great view of some of HL2's environments.

Exactly. You can show these pictures to your friends and show them the beauty of HL2.

They so cool. i want to do the same with a pic of my room :(

Then you better have a fairly large room or a very wide-angle lense then. I did over 50 QTVR shots for a school who wanted a virtual tour, and they all came out great apart from ones in very small room.

Nah screw it then. would have been cool though

This would have been great if they had been released, say, before Half-Life 2. Now? They're novel, but seeing those environments in-game in full motion and real-time 3D is far more impressive.

They already do. Bungie released a few VR freeze frame shot of the multiplayer some months before the release. You have to feed the fans and I must agree that QTVR is great to do that :naughty:
