Half-Life 2 < Pariah? Why don't you think so?

Alright, the upcoming game from Digital Extremes is Pariah. The story is you're trying to evacuate a chick with a wierd disease off earth so she can be treated. On the way out you get shot down by missiles & are forced to survive in the harsh earth invironment. It takes place in the 25th century so dont expect everything to dry up tomorrow.

There are two ads you should watch before you start saying why Half-Life 2 is better. The first is the original trailer: Link here.

Alright, as soon as you've watched both of those, prove to me Half-Life 2 is better!

I'll wait until it comes out.
 
This reminds me of a story I read in a PC Gaming magazine about people who are paid to go to websites and promote other games.

Multiplayer looks very cool, not sure about Singleplayer, though.

It's nice that the trailers go on about how revolutionary a game is but don't actually say what's exactly it is that's so revolutionary.

This line alone is basically why HL2 is better than Pariah. Developing for 3 platforms at once is lame. Ubisoft can maybe pull it off with SC, but Ion Storm couldn't with DEx2 or Thief III.

Also, this does sound like a spam advert (the dodgy part at the end of the URL looks like some referral code), i'd delete this thread.

Why don't I think Half-Life 2 is less than the ferret poo four feet away from me?
 
Nice first post....

I anticipate this game, but I can not say its better or worse, not at least until I've played it... But if we are going by just opinion, then Half life 3 totally destroys Pariah... Makes about as much sense right?
 
ugh

Been reading about it. Prob with MMORPG is lately they have been taking months if not years to get through 'beta'. Case in point GuildWars ( Apr28 ), been a beta for a long long time. So in all cases I will wait till it comes out. So far I enjoy greatly HL2. And I still blast my way through HalfLife on occassion. Yet from the same peeps who did UT , could be good.
 
I'm excitied about Pariah. Is it better than HL2? Well, I'll have to wait until I play it don't I?
 
Looks buy worthy, but unless i can kill people with the kitchen sink it has got nothing against HL2 NOTHING!

Amen, is all I have to say.

And that it's pretty much impossible for anything not made by Valve to trump anything made by Valve.
 
Is it just me or does the singleplayer look A LOT like Halo/2? The scenery is pretty much exactly the same. I don't think I will be enjoying this game, although I might. I loved the first Halo, but the 2nd was just plain dog pewp. :) That means this game is going to be on my hate list if it looks and plays just like Halo Dos.

Was the gravity gun patented, or did I miss something? Oh my god! HL1 stole the shotgun from Doom 1! Call the police!
 
gravity gun is a bit more original than the shotgun. either way, i was mostly kidding... :o no one ever doubted that the gravity gun would be emulated.

It's not classed purely as an FPS, hence my answer was entirely accurate.

What were you expecting? For me to turn round and say "Damn! You got me!". Quoting my own posts back at me is an exercise in pure futility - I am 100 per cent aware of what I've written in the past, and I'm not going to contradict myself.

Just thought you were working on an FPS that's all. You said you weren't so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't confused.

Seriously, people around here get very angry very quickly.
 
The only thing nice looking so far, is the graphics. the ragdolls are way to over exaggerated, and it's just another FPS so far.
 
What the hell is special about this game? I'm stuck at the simple map editor, but that's only interesting for the console version.

No, only games in the FPS genre to potentially contest HL2's throne are FEAR and STALKER.

HL2 isn't exactly godlike either guys.
Imo, No game currently out has done jackshit to revolutionize the FPS genre since HL1.
All the games currently out simply give it a nice little facelift.
In terms of graphics that is.

yeah exactly,im not expecting a new hl2,jusy a decent solid fps,i mean fear and stalker are yonks off,need some fps action
 
Some people here can be such fanboys at times. Sure, it's not going to win any awards or revolutionize the genre, but it does look like pure damn fun. I don't know about you, but that's what I look for in my games.
 
Axyon, while I agree, I don't see anything in this game that will make it stand out above the rest. It has some pretty graphics, but I wouldn't be surprised if this just turns out to be another generic FPS romp. And after so many of those, they stop being fun.

Granted, I'm only going off of information presented up to this point. I'll obviously have to wait until the game comes out to make any proper evaluation. But I haven't seen anything so far that would lead me to believe that this title is anywhere near surpassing HL2.

I know it probably won't surpass Half-Life 2 in terms of anything, but it's just the way some people act - like anything other than Half-Life 2 isn't worth playing. I'm very sure this won't push the boundaries at all, but I can see it being one of those games that you play for throwaway fun; the same way that something like UT2k4 was. It added nothing new to the genre, but it took everything good from the tried-and-tested formula and made a solid game.
 
Diablo... Diablo 1... I've been playing Diablo more than any other game currently....

I love Diablo 1 :)
Simple, Randomized Levels, Creepy Atmosphere, Big levels yet not wide open spaces.

This game will probably not surpass HL2, but it gives me the impression of a UT style game. UT, and Quake style games are simple, fun, and lots of explosions.

Must love Diablo 1 :)
