Would you guys rather them release the game now, fix all the bugs and gameplay issues in patches over the next three months, or them wait three months and release the game (mostly)bug free.

Something in between... All major bugs should be eliminated, but the minor stuff can be fixed later...

I get the feeling that most of their testing now is for gameplay tweaks not programming bugs. If thats the case then I would rather them release the game later to make sure the gameplay experience is the best it can be.

obviously waiting for a less buggy game makes more sense.. releasing a game full of bugs is only gonna get fans angry.. and the famous "a 6 year wait for the sequel and i get a buggy game? WTF!! omgzors!!!1!"

really, i think Valve has had enough hatin' going on towards from not releasing the game earlier.. and i don't think they would release a game with tons of bugs in it.

Personal oppinion = The bug squashing period, tech related bugs that is - is over.

Focus now is on gameplay issues i think.

As for the poll....kinda of a double-edged sword here - on the one hand i'd really like the game to be out as soon as possible...

......buuuut

On the other hand i'd really like to see a near-perfect-as-can-get product, without any major gameplay issues

Gabe Newell has said time and time again that he wants HL2 to be a perfect flawless game.

second option............I would rather wait.

Wait for sure. Not just for our benefit, but for Valve's. Reviews will be much worse if they release a game with many bugs, the reviewers simply don't go back and change a score if the game gets patched up well.

I want to be able to play the game thru the first week adn not have to worry about a bug stopping me and then having to get a patch, the game would not be as fun that way.

When I watched a Half-Life 1 speed run movie earlier today, and I tought about how every detail was in the exactly right place. I think valve have fixed most of the bugs and now they're only fixing the details that makes the game a little extra, just like the stuff I saw in the video. And that's mutch better than releasing lots of patches when the game is out and everybody has played it trough.

I hate this new attitude that alot of game devs have about releasing games that are half assed and then patching them later. It's frustrating, they should just wait until it's right. I have even seen a handful of games that have a patch before the game is even out! Just rediculous.

Patches are inevitable. Unless there are catastrophic, system crashing bugs readily apparent and the game is not fully playable from beginning to end(of course), they should release the game and let the fans report the minor bugs. That's what they're going to do anyway. They can nitpick all they want but rest assured someone, somewhere will find something wrong with the game soon after it's released, that will need to be addressed.

release the game now, one would think after almost 6 years of dev time it should be quite stable.

however, if not (uhm... wow) then I would rather wait till its not buggy... theres nothing worse than waiting on a game forever, you think its gonna rule.. and its noticeable buggy and crappy.. would ruin the entire experience.

We'll get a lot of patches either way via Steam, but hopefully with new game content, not just bugfixes.

The people who voted now are amazingly ignorant.

what about people without internet connections?

they should get a completely shafted game just so you can play if a few weeks earlier?

stfu....

I wouldnt say ignorant, perhaps selfish.. but this is the internet why would they care about anyone else?
this was of course a personal taste question.
and the people who voted yes most likely have an internet connection.
everyone is entitled to their opinion however.

If you guys forgot, the pictures the Belgians took at Valve show a schedule on a whiteboard that describes various animations/scenes that still need to be completed, and the schedule runs through 6/3.

So no, I'd rather they FINISH THE GAME before releasing it. And no, I don't take Gabe and Doug's "the game is complete, we're just playtesting" statements literally. I'm sure after working on it for 5 years it seems really close to being finished now. But according to the animators' schedule, the game was definitely not content-complete at E3.

Meh, I would want the game in whatever state it is in on June 7th.
That's when school is out! :)

But, ahhh, we have waited so long, what could hurt waiting for a bug free game.

June or July. Valve- just work all day and night...it's not that hard. Don't procrastinate like us students do sometimes...

Valve has been working on HL2 for over five years, wanting them to release a relatively stable game in the next 2-3 months isn't that much to ask IMHO. Of course asking it and actually getting it are two different things. To be honest, I don't care when the game is released as long as it kicks ass.
